All that talk about MI crayfish this last week got my creative juices flowing. This is my first attempt at a rusty craw (on a DD 22). I can't say that I'm in love it, but I can't really say that I hate it. I already have a list of changes I'll make on the next one.
I gotta say that is some of your best work that I have seen. I really like the separate plates on there it really makes it look like a craw. I think you should keep the same lighter color on the bottom, but on the top keep the same detail but with alot more browns and greens you would have yourself a good all around michigan craw color.
Thanks Tim. Going darker on top is on my list. It looks lighter in the photos than it is, but I still want to go darker. I'm also going to change the size and shape of the segments. I have it all sketched out, now all I have to do is actually get it on a crank like it's sketched...lol.
belongs in an art gallery. Beautiful work Jeff.
dude, slow down. Your gonna make me quit. Your skills are getting ridiculous.
Jeff, very nice sir. You know where to send one if you care to have it tested against a few bluff walls, submerges trees, and deep ledges down in TN! I'll take one for the team on this... ;)
WOW! What else is there to say. This is true March Madness.
When can I put in an order?! :o Nice work!
I must say Jeff, you are ridiculously talented. I have watched you grow from a wee lad into the paining genius you are today and it makes me proud!
McCarter himself :-\'
Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments. This one took a LONG time to paint up. Of course, I really didn't have too much of a game plan going in to it, so that always slows things down. I have a better idea of what I want to do the next time so hopefully it won't take as long as this one did.
so how many beers is it going to take to get that one in my tackle box, or one just like it on a dt 16 with a little tiny bit of blue mixed in.

LOL...I'd have to think about that offer. If you look real close, you'll see blue along the back and in small patches along the sides. It's real difficult to tell by the pictures but it is a mix of browns, greens, and blue.
yea, i can see some very faint blueish color on the back. did you ever find the copper color that was on the craw i brought to the bar the last time?

I honestly haven't looked around yet. But I do have a good idea on where to begin looking.

Im actually looking in my tank right now and I got a craw in there. Right before it molts it gets these crack spots just as you painted. The color just after they molt is something people wouldnt believe. I have a pic Ill see if I can get it up...One heck of a job

Thanks. I'd love to see the pic of that craw after it molted.
I'll go to his house and take the pic, and post it as soon as it molts.
caught this guy today when I was working on my dock. about 3" long. Lots of green and blue.
Sweet pics Steve. Put him in your livewell and I'll take a look at him in a couple weeks.
thats about a dead ringer for "magic craw swirl" sweet beaver - my fav color :)
he is back safe and sound under his rock pile by the seawall. you could tell he was not very happy being on shore. may have to get some blue spike it for the chigger craw trailers..
