California Bans Import of Frogs and Turtles for Food

LOS ANGELES (March 5) -- Californians who want to rustle up some frog's legs or turtle soup will have to start settling for the local varieties.

The state Fish and Game Commission voted this week to ban the import of non-native turtles and frogs as food -- a staple in some Asian grocery stores -- capping a 16-year battle by animal rights activists to halt the practice. The Humane Society of the United States was involved in this action. They are one of the most active and successful anti-hunting and anti-fishing organizations in the US, and are not the same as your local humane societies. They also had quite a bit to do with the failure of dove season legislation here in Michigan. They keep slowly, but steadily eroding other's abilities to live life their way.
