Title: Seminars
Post by: jim 2row on February 09, 2010, 10:23:20 PM
Do any of you guys know if there are any seminars coming up. I live by Toledo Ohio. Would love to learn more about my new Humminbirds. Don't really think I know enough to fish off of it for a specific fish like alot of you guys can. Any help would be sweet. Thanks. Jim

Seminars at Outdoorama coming up in Novi February 25 through February 28, 2010. I don't see anything specifically on Humminbirds. http://www.showspan.com/OUT/Seminars.aspx

There will be some Humminbird information at the Grand Rapids Ultimate Sport Show March 18  through 21. http://www.showspan.com/USG/

D & R Sports Center usually has a Humminbird seminar or two during their winter seminar series: http://www.dandrsports.com/default2.asp?active_page_id=232

Nothing on the schedule yet, but I think BryanP might know if they'll have something at their NBAA show or big spring show. D & R should have something up on their shows soon.

Mike Elkins from D&R Sports in Kalamazoo was the rep at Matteson Marine's Open House. I listened to him explain how the new software can be set to better see your jig or drop shot rig as you fish specific fish. Mike said that Humminbird use to have a filter built in that made that type of fishing tougher with their units because the filter took out clutter which reduced that type of sensitivity. The new software has an option so you can turn that filter on or off. Mike doesn't have a website, he may be putting a page up on my teardropbass.com website though. I have a picture of Mike on my Daily Blog section of the site. Mike knows his stuff and would be a great resource. He told me that he wasn't sure if they were going to bring boats to the Ultimate Sport Show in Grand Rapids. He said they did better at the upcoming Boat Show and would be there for that. I have a link for the boat show date on my Daily Blog. I'm pretty sure that D&R would, as Lt. Dan said, have people at their Spring Open House. They usually have their Spring Fling the week after the Grand Rapids Sport Show. That would be around the third or fourth week of March.
Lance Valentine does a great day long seminar for Lowrance units and maybe Mike could be persuaded to do one like that for the Birds. There is so much these things can do and it really helps to have someone walk you through it.
Here's a google search that might give you some good info. You Tube often will have good "How To" videos on all kinds of units and has some on Humminbirds.  http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=7mF&q=You+Tube+Side+imaging+Humminbirds&oq=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=re5yS6bXMoTbnAfrpqyICw&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBIQqwQwAA#

Hello everyone, I am the Humminbird sales rep and I will be doing a "Humminbird Hands on Classroom" type seminar at D&R Sports on Saturday, Feb 27.  Not sure of the seminar time yet, but as soon as we get it nailed down it will be posted on the D&R Sports website.  This will be part of the "Bass Saturday" event at D&R.  Elite Series pros Matt Herren and Stephen Browning will also be present doing seminars.

Yes Mike Elkins does know his stuff! And he was gracious enough to help me out while I was out of town at another event. The new "un-filtered" sonar is called Switchfire. There are two modes--Clear Mode and Max Mode.  Clear Mode uses Time Variable Gain (TVG) software to reduce undesireable screen clutter and gives you a clearer picture of the water column.  Max Mode allows you to see the tiniest sonar returns in the water column such as plankton, currents, thremoclines, and makes your dropshot easier to see on your screen.

Hope to see everyone at D&R!

Bryan

Hey Bryan,
If the D&R Sports Humminbird Hands On workshop is still on schedule, I'd  really appreciate you letting me know when and where I can sign up myself and a couple of guys coming down from northern Michigan. I'm really looking forward to it. Also, I Marshaled with Matt Herren, Day One last year at the BASS Decatur, Alabama event on Wheeler. Can't wait to talk with him again. Could even draw him again this year. I'm Marshaling three days on both Guntersville and Pickwick.

Thanks!
