State Record Great Lakes Muskellunge Certified by Department of Natural Resources

Oct. 15, 2009: It's official: Kyle Anderson's 50-pound, 8-ounce Great Lakes muskellunge, caught Sept. 27 on Torch Lake, has been certified as the state record by the Department of Natural Resources.

The 30-year-old Anderson was trolling with a Muskie Magnet in 40-feet of water when he caught the 56-inch fish, eclipsing the previous state record of 48 pounds caught by Charles Edgecomb at Skegemog Lake in 1984.

Anderson's muskie had been captured in a net by DNR personnel as part of ongoing survey work on the Elk Lake chain of lakes in the spring. DNR Fisheries Division employees measured and tagged the fish, but did not weigh her.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, accessible use and enjoyment of the State's natural resources for current and future generations.
