Title: Lake St. Clair Mile Roads queestions
Post by: billy8878 on August 16, 2009, 09:01:27 PM
I went out to St. Clair this weekend to fish for some smallies, I have never been to the mile roads. Caught a few near the shipping channel and then some here and there but never developed a pattern to where I was on a school of them. I usually hang around the channels since that is all I really have known since our family cottage is off Harsens Island.

What exactly are you guys doing when you fish the mile roads? Is there a particular depth you are fishing, what kind of structure is out there, rocks, weedlines, etc,? How far off the shore do you go? Any major landmarks that I should be looking for? Just want to check with you guys first before I venture out there.

Thanks

Caught about 20 on the Mile Roads the other day.  There are still plenty of fish there, albeit many of them are smaller.  For some reason we couldn't seem to get too many in the 3+'s.  But it was easy fishing.  We basically headed out of the cutoff ramp and motored out toward the ship channel and found fish in 12' to 14'.  We found a decent hump out there with some pretty tall weed on it, but when the weed turned into grass, we found plenty of fish.  We did find some rocks and gravel and there were fish around.  But grass seemed to hold more fish this past weekend out there.  We fished some isolated boulders around the ship channel and caught a couple, but they weren't in that 19' range.  They were shallower.  We caught them as shallow as 11'.
