Title: passports
Post by: stackenem on January 16, 2009, 08:57:05 PM
So what is the actual skinny on the passport issue for this coming season?  Has anybody heard anything about the passport cards? I put in for the email for when they would be ready and never heard a word about them.

Nothing on availability. We do want to have one by June 2009. If I find out more, I'll pass it on.

Fox news Friday night said that Mi is going to start giving an enhanced drivers lic. This will happen sometime in may or june and it will take place of your passport for going to Canada. All you need to get it is your birth cert and a copy of your rent or mortage agreement. The cost will be 45.00

I'm being given the impression that a delay is happening because more states are going to enhanced drivers licenses more quickly. I had to get a passport anyway my recent trip and future plans.

I got both ( passport & card) in 9 days a couple months ago. Went to the county clerks office and they handled everything. No problem.

I thought the card, and the new drivers license were two different things.  Am I wrong?

The passport card is a passport with limited use as far as countries it applies to - if I remember right. The enhanced drivers license is just a drivers license that is readable by various card readers so they expect it to be more difficult to make a counterfeit, making it more acceptable as an ID.
