Title: Tawas Bay
Post by: LAPORTE on January 15, 2009, 12:27:30 PM
Has anyone fished Tawas Bay during the spawn ? I was out on one of the tall ships this past summer for a spin around in the bay. It sure did look like there might be some good fishing to be had...

The things you think of when your boat is broken in the middle of winter. Man when is the next show  ;D

I watched Scott Martin,s challenge today and he was fishing against Scott Dobson in the Tawas Bay area. They stuck a few pigs with several 4lbers coming off beds. Looks like a great place to hit the smallies!!

Tawas bay has big fish potential, but doesn't have the population that the charitys have.  I have areas up there that hold fish with tons of dead water in between, so you have to find them first.  That side of the bay still confuses me, so much good looking spawning habitat and they only use certain areas.  The fish up there are lake huron smallmouths as opposed to saginaw bay smallies, chunkier build so they hold more weight.  You'll either have 20lb day or catch nothing up there.  They are very easy to catch when you find them, and the clear water is awesome.
