Post by: bob o on March 26, 2020, 11:09:47 AM
who's doing what, getting the boat and trailer ready? already fishing? tuning the rods and reels? I got my licence and i'm heading to the grarge today for boat clean-up and maybe some new line on the reels.

I got out yesterday for about 4 hours.  About 20 other boaters had the same idea at the Gun Lake State Park launch.  Caught 3 and lost 2.  I was hoping to catch more but just getting out was nice.

I get no time off.  You guys are lucky.  Get out there and enjoy it.

Cleaned all the reels, fixed the cork, and almost done with replacing and rewrapping guides.
Tackle organization done.
Next will need to open up the boat.
Lakes near me have no docks yet.

I never understood the "Need" for a dock... I launch a 22 ft boat all the time w/o a dock. I did it yesterday as a matter of fact.

I?d be launching alone and I don?t like to beach the boat.

To each their own.

Went yesterday with 21XDC. We launched without a dock on a half ramp that was busted up. The water was WAY down were we were. Caught about 10 and had no problems until the boat got away from us loading. ha ha ha

Since I went and got the trailer, I assumed Phil would handle the boat. But Phil got out of the boat and let the river pull it away...  :o Phil got wet.... Don't be Phil.  ;D LOL  ;D :-*

This wouldn't have happened if I was by myself... I make sure the boat is secure before I leave to get the trailer...  LOL..

There is still a foot of dang ice on my lake! >:( >:( . Lots of other lakes have ice too. Only thing really being caught on the bay thats open is perch in suttons bay and on torch some atlantic's long lining. Water temps were really cold too from what I heard, 34 - 36 degrees. Boat is still in storage and our temps this week ain't going be great. 40's breezy and cloudy . I don't think its gonna happen for me until near the end of the month.

Framing about 800 sq ft of basement space.  Anyone know a good drywall guy?

Also managed to get out on the D for a few walleye day before yesterday and a few smallies on the lake.

I've been fishing mostly just Round Lake every few days. Bass are heating up slow there but being out is better than nothing. Better than sitting home watching the news and getting terrified... Have to read all the rules in all of the orders and such. The DNR closed Tippy Dam Rec Area because anglers were packing in there and they were not only not 'local' but from all parts of the state, and the final stake in the heart - many from out-of-state. Not going to fly right now.

Make sure you don't gather in close-knit groups at ramps. The ramp may close if they see that. Keep that 6 foot distance from everyone and we can keep fishing 'local' anyways. We need something to do!

Meanwhile, when not fishing, I seem to be doing lots of web updates for people about closures, cancellations, postponements and reschedules of all kinds of things. This sure is strange...

Hope you're all being careful and staying clear-minded. There's going to be a need for lots of fishing somehow this year! #economythroughfishing

I think I'm working now more than before the outbreak, except from home while 2 kids are running around.  Wife is a CPA and still has been working.  I have been spending long hours during the night working on the boat since January, she turned 23 years old this year.  New plumbing for livewells and bilge, made a new dash, rewired with blade fuse boxes, new rub rail insert, pulled all thru hull fittings and resealed.  Removed back strap hooks and motor mounts then filled with epoxy mix and redrilled them.  Replaced wood in driver and passenger seat with epoxy coated wood.  Probably some things I forgot.  I did finish it 2 nights ago so now I can get gear around and hopefully find sometime to fish in another week or so.

I do now have a supply of walleye filets in the freezer and a bunch of smallies have visited my net.   Still working on the basement.   Hope to get it wired today.

Or tomorrow.

Wish I would have bought Side Walk Chalk stock.  Been bike riding a lot and see how many driveways are decorated.  Some of the little ones have talent.   Guess since they are out of school for 4-5 months it could get scarce.  Better stock up.
