Title: 1994 Johnson 150 Fast Strike
Post by: billy_bass on July 21, 2008, 08:26:30 PM
Hello- I  am having problems with my engine cutting out at higher RPMs. It runs just fine normally, but it is starting to cut out at 45 MPH or so. It seems to me that it is a fuel issue. It is almost as if it just starves out of gas.  I tried running some sea foam through it but it still happens.  Should I change the fuel filter, Spark plugs, both, or anything else you may think of? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you - Billy

I had a similar problem recently and did a shock treatment of Ring Free (it a Yamaha) and replaced the plugs but that didn't seem to help. I then changed the water/fuel separator canister and that took care of it, if not the fuel filter was next. Hope that helps.

You might post your question over at bassboatcentral.com in the Johnson forum.  They have helped me in the past with issues on my '99 150.

We had the exact same motor,  with what sounds like the same problem.  We threw all kinds of parts at it,  took it to our mechanic and he couldn't find anything wrong,  we changed the fuel filter,  new plugs,  and new wiring harness.  We ended up taking it to someplace in GR,  can't for the life of me remember the name,  they took it out and couldn't get it to do it,  I said let my husband take you out he can get it to do it,  sure enough he did,  and it ended up being the brain, which we had also replaced with a rebuilt one from the same place we took it to get fixed.  So don't always trust rebuilt parts.

It ran like a champ after that,  still is,  even though we don't have it anymore.

Good luck!!
