The later it gets, The better the fishing.... Wind and direction decides the date.

Bad news is I have to go to Florida until Nov 16th.     I could go any day after that if there is no ice.  Luckily my boat is happy inside a garage ready to go.  Hoping the Black Friday Bass Trip is going to happen if the lake is not froze.   Still have nightmares from the time we did that.

I'm good to go any Sunday. Maybe shoot for the 18th? Keeping our eye on the weather of course.

I would like to go. I know some good areas and techniques in the hot pond. If anyone has an open seat I'd like to tag along as a non boater😊

Always fun to get in a very cold winter fishing trip to the Hot Pond! Especially after everything is freezing up and you've given up all hope that any fishing won't be on hard water! Nice cabin fever breaker!

No idea anymore how to tell what the weather is going to do. The 'weather' people don't know. Who else can we ask??

I look at several forecasts - which usually contradict each other. I guess what might actually happen. I plan to go somewhere and cross my fingers that their forecast erros don't lead to a day I regret going...

Did anyone go yesterday.
Title: Re: when is the pond trip?

Couldn't go yesterday. Doesn't sound like anyone made it. But this coming Sunday might be doable if there's an open back seat...?? Not thinking sunny and 85 is going to happen but fishing could happen...

Saturday I will be watching a certain event from afar called The Game with my fingers crossed, toes uncrossed, one eye open and one eye closed hoping to see the team that played the previous few weekends make my winter a happy winter. I haven't fished in 4 days, and I'm already feeling it... We need a warm spell or thick ice soon... one or the other. (Go Blue!)

Good thing no one contacted me about fishing... I wasn't in a mood to be around for several days... maybe next year.

I fished the hot pond today 3-4hrs with Mark Geoetch...... All we caught were carp and shad... Not one bass.

Wonder if the Gill Net killed them all.   Sure are a lot of buoys on there this year.

That's not good to hear... the bass should be in there by now? I'd still go if I could sometime though it's more fun if some bass are biting.

Meanwhile, I'm grudgingly wishing for consistent cold weather so maybe I can at least go ice fishing on ice that stays solid when I walk on it...

Question...... who the heck is netting what in there ???????
Title: Re: when is the pond trip?

There is a big barge / tank type boat with winches on it.  It is piled with gill nets.   Last year the barge had a lot of carp swimming in in.  They must harvest trash fish for sale.  There was 1 net full of very dead shad and other fish.   This year there were many floats with ropes attached.  Don't think they had nets attached.    Sadly we used to be able to sit right at the entrance and catch small to medium sized bass on crankbaits.  I think my best was 9 in 9 casts.  This year we never caught a bass only snagged the gizzard shad that live in there.

Mike may know more about it.

Yes... They have permission to net the fish as they keep their boat on DTE property and dock. But I believe they are supposed to check the nets every couple days. They don't. They do throw back bass and other gamefish species.... Not always are they alive. I think that the carp/cats/sheephead etc crowd and smother the other fish and die. All of the marker buoys have nets attached.  >:(  Many more than in the past. They used to mostly net in Lake Erie outside of the hot pond.

I have thought about turning them in for not checking nets since I fish there all winter... But who are they going to believe?

Hopefully the fishing improves.  I do enjoy going to see the Eagles that live in there.

Me too... I have seen up to 75 Eagles in 1 day... Up to 25 in one tree.  Many are juveniles w/o the white head.

Sometimes, the only way to get something to happen is to report it. Doesn't always work. But doesn't always fail either. Better than not doing anything usually.

I am sure the news media would love a story of a bunch of dead game fish.

Sadly to much press would probably lead to the closing of all fishing and boating in there.  Politics.

Not in a case like this. It would clearly be a commercial fishing violation. They can lose their license to fish.

As far as proof... Theu say a picture can be worth a 1,000 words... In this case, maybe a $1,000! Video.   Even better.

I'll explain more later.

Well, My friends Steve and Brad fished the hot pond once again on Sunday.... Not a single bass. They looked into the fish netting company's floating fish barge again.... Lots of dead fish again. This time there was 4 dead cormorants and one 1/2 alive... So now we see they are killing wildlife...  ::)

Thanks to the DNR that wont go check, Even though they have seen pics and video with gps coordinates, Time stamps and the smoke stacks in the pics.   The DNR knows what is going on with proof!

Still they show no interest in even looking...  :'(

I would suggest contacting the TV stations in Detroit to see if they have interest.   Send the video with photos.

That's not a bad idea. Sometimes it helps to light a little fire somewhere that will get noticed. Can make things happen. Sometimes they need that little help to get going...

Funny the last couple days my FB has been bringing up the former trips there.  Probably teasing me that I will not get my boat parts until July of next year ( maybe ).  Hope someone gets out there and posts a report.

Electric pump inside the VST is dead.   Ordered and paid for one from Euro Marine Sept 16th.  They said 6 days backorder.   They have updated it every week.  Now tomorrow is the next date.   Sadly I found a couple at dealers that have it but since I paid for it I have to wait.   It is an expensive part.  Boat is put away and I am getting ready for Florida.  Hopefully I have it by April.  :(
