Title: Where to launch for south and east shore?
Post by: bshaner on July 03, 2008, 11:00:00 AM
A couple questions here:

If you want to fish the east shore and south shore would you launch in Canada or St Jeans?

If you launch in Canada, where is best?  How much of a pain in the butt is it right now to go out and come back in the border?

Is St Jean's ramp safe these days?  I've always heard horror stories about St Jeans and thefts/damage.  I'd be going on Mondays so there wouldnt be the comfort of safety in numbers on the weekend.  I dont know if I'm comfortable with my truck being the only target if there's no guard during the week.

These are the questions that come to mind.  Any input is appreciated even if it isnt one of my questions.

We went out of St. Jeans last week and it seemed pretty safe. It is just empty lots, new condos, and a new housing development with big houses. I had heard the same stories in the past, but I think that the area has changed.

we usually launch out of 9mi and jefferson and run from there. Thats just because my buddy doesnt feel safe launching from St Jeans. But when walleye and muskie fishing @ the mouth of river and by peache island we launched from St Jeans and had no probs and that was during the week. Havent had a chance to bass fish south shore yet but looking forward to it soon.

I have been launching out of St. Jeans for years.  I believe it is pretty safe.  There is an attendant there.  I launched out of there last week about 4 different times.  The cost is $10.  It used to be $15 to launch.  I was quite surprised to find that they lowered the cost $5.  Kwame must not need the money or he found that if he lowered the price more people would launch there.  But again, I consider it pretty safe.  I have never had a problem.  The attendant keeps a pretty good eye on things.

For the east shore you may want to go to Canada, however I have gotten there by launching in Algonac.  It is probably better to launch near Mitchell's Bay or possibly on the Indian Reservation, however make sure you have your Walpole Island license.

We went ahead and launched out of St Jeans yesterday.  No incidents.  A lot of FLW boats there at sun up when we arrived.

Fished south shore most of the day and ran into most of the FLW boats that were out there.  Seemed they all were fishing south shore.

We caught alot of fish (estimate about 50).  Our biggest went over 5 pounds and several more in the 4.5 lb range.  Over all it was the largest average fish I've caught on Clair to date.  Great day.

Blossom Heath Lauch  will let you launch in St. Clair shores for ten dollars. It's between 10 & 9 but closer to ten off Blossom Heath and Jefferson right below Lakeside fishing.

The launch @ 9mile and jefferson by fishbones will let you launch for $10 as well.
