Title: Golden rule board and its aproximate weights per given length!
Post by: bassdisaster on June 26, 2008, 08:35:10 AM
Ok i havent posted here much, but been a member for a while now, I have been fishing tournaments for several years, and in my opinion the golden rule board is real close, I  have seen Michigan fish weigh more than the board and of course ive seen em weigh less than the board says.
Whats your opinion?
Is the board accurate!
On another site, they all hate it sayin its off by 1/2 pound+  I dont buy that!

It can be, and some times it isn't.  Fish are like people.  I've seen dudes that are 6ft tall that weigh 180 pounds, and I've seen dudes that are 6ft tall weigh 300+.  I've seen fish in the 18-19" range weigh 4+ and I've seen 18-19" fish barely weigh 2 (especially post-spawn).  So short answer is...maybe?   :D

What he said.  The catch 22 is that paper tourneys are generally held during the pre-spawn time frame when females are loading up with eggs.  Paper tourneys arent generally held in the time of season when the length estimated weight would be at it's most accurate.

Hi Carl!!   ;D

I think this is why we have scales instead of boards that tell us what a fish "should" weigh instead of what it actually weighs.

I just did not want to post at MIS cause I did not want it to look like i was picking on Justin, so I posted here, dont change anything tho, I stil believe the board is a reasonable assumption, that a basic 15" bass will weigh about 2 lbs, depending on time of year, place where caught ect.
I fished White Lake yesterday, and weighed all our fish, guess what, the board was lite on 1/2 and dead on on the other 1/2, so If you dont want to believe what the board say's thats fine, because I know better!

So the board was right half the time... tell me... do you use it to cull?  I'll stick with the scale and my balance beam.  Right 100% of the time.
