Title: Wild Fowl Bay 5.13.17
Post by: FrickerDude on May 14, 2017, 12:39:14 PM
Met Tritonbasser in Bay Port yesterday morning and we took the boats out to see what was going on in da bay.  Water temps were mid to upper 50's in most of the water we fished on the main lake.  water clarity was 2-5' depending where we were at.  We each caught 2 smallies and they were scattered any where from 2-7' of water around rocks.  After that we headed to some cuts, water was 60-62 degrees.  started off slow but then finally picked up and we started landing some largemouths pretty steady.  between both our boats we caught around 15 or so, with a bonus pike for me and a walleye for Mitch.  Fun day fishing with a fellow member.

I do miss the Bay! (Only when it's not rough, of course!)

Dan you would have liked it that day, not even a ripple in the morning.

Used to duck hunt up there.  Always wanted to bass fish it but It is a terrible drive for me.  Only 120 miles but used to take 3 hours.   Is the water clear now up there.

it wasn't too bad the other day.  it just depends, but it should continue to improve until we get a bunch of rain.  If you go up by Port Austin there are times when you can see the bottom in 20-25' of water, absolutely beautiful

Most of the season it is nothing like the 'mudhole' it was many years ago. The mussels have done their job there as well as any other part of the Great Lakes. I remember when it first cleared up years ago and we started finding out there were a lot more rocks out there in places we didn't even know there were rocks before!

The smallies have seemed to move further down into the Bay too with the clearing water. It is likely some smallies were there all the time and we just rarely caught them?
