Title: Are you proud of that fish?
Post by: Revtro on February 09, 2006, 10:28:21 AM
How about some pics of fish you're particularly proud of...
Here's a nice Smallie I caught in the South Channel.  I'm proud of this one because it's one of the first good ones I caught when I committed myself to really learning how to fish the channel current.  This one went over 5.

My oldest boy two years ago.? He just turned 6.? Not big, but the first bass that he casted, hook set, landed all by himself.? He even picked out the lure.(http://www.bass-finaddicts.com/images/DSCN2437.jpg)

Nice edit :D.  Heres one from this spring, no giant only 4lbs 8oz but he was the anchor to a 21lb 12oz limit I also had two 18lb limits and three 15lb limits.  I ran it to the mother load of prespawners, two days later they were gone.  Easily my best day last year.

Caught this one on a freezing cold November day out on Kent Lake.  I was using a jig from a new sponsor ( tourneyjigs.com ).  It is part bear hair, part silicone, incredible action.  The next day i caught 8 smallmouth on them, the biggest being over 5.  didnt have the camera that day.  shame.

This one couldnt have come at a better time.  I was fishing the wonderland marine owners tournament with Jose Garza.  We were doing pretty good, catching 3 lbers pretty steadily but time was running out and we desperatly needed a kicker fish.  Thats when i hooked up with this little piggy.

We ended up taking 2nd place with, if i remember correctly, 19.88 lbs for 5 fish.

I had a good season last year as I got to learn A LOT. Last season I caught a bunch of fish and have a few that i'm proud of...

The first one is my biggest smallie on record. I actually weighed this fish and took a picture. But I caught one on Erie a few years back that would probably rival this one....

5-11 Smallie...

Here are some more pictures from the Wonderland Owner's Tournament...

And I like these pictures because thats that day I finally figured out how to catch fish on Cass... ha...

Yeah... I hope this upcoming season brings more and bigger fish... i'm really looking forward to this season...

That was a great day.  I still have not been able to get a hold of the pictures taken by the Wonderland staff and I didn't have a camera that day.  I believe I had a 6.7 pig rounding out that 24.7 bag.  I was so happy for my dad.  That was dream day for us. 6 bites / 5 toads.

I am hoping 2006 will bring some of those same good fortunes.

Not a bass, but I got this from an old quarry in Northville...We didn't have a tape measure (which explains the Hawaii-dude sign), but it was at least 16 inches...

I remember that fish.  It was the new state record smallmouth for a minute.  then we saw the size of the scales.

You are the carp master.  And the dog fish champion.

Jeff,
That crappie would look great next to 5 or 6 of his buddies, along with lemon wedges and home cut fries!

That pond you are on, do they water ski there? My boss skies somewhere in Northville every morning and afternoon on a lake in Northville.

Nice pics,
I thought spring was close before all the snow. I'll have to settle for just pictures now.  Seeing that carp, I even miss tripping over all the clutter on the front deck during a tough day.

Unfortunately that was the only one we got that day...The quarry we were fishing is electric motor only, so unless your boss is light enough to get up on skis while being pulled by a 7' Gill Getter with a 24v TM, I doubt this is the place  :D

There is a lake off of 10 mile and Beck (don't know the name of it)...maybe that's the place?

Blakstr...

It reminds me of one of the bridges in the river at Wixom... the one that has that big sports bar up the hill...

Only two other bridges left that I know of... so that must be the one next to albright shores at the gas station/boat ramp.
That lake has been a killer for me. I have mentally taken myself out of a tournament more than once there.
I try to key on places during practice that aren't going to be affected by the current of the dam during the week, so that when it comes tournament time I'm not wondering where the fish went.
My club will be up there two different times this year, I'm looking forward to putting something together and cutting a check there once and for all.

Hard to believe what one cast can do to change your life and the people around you....

My moment came up north on a double bladed buzzbait of all the things.  I was fishing with a freind in his boat, and tied it on becasue it looked cool.  I had never caught a legal sized bass before in my life.  I actually had quit reeling and let it fall to bottom because I was getting a drink when the fish hit!  After a tense struggle, I was holding a 19" smallie in my shaking hands.  I got him mounted (sorry!) and have been "hooked" ever since.

I went on to get Blakstr hooked, so you can see how that one cast changed both our lives forever!  WOW!

I received an email a while back during the spring from a recent immigrant to the US who was frustrated at not being able to catch bass out of Lake Ovid. He's heard there were plenty of bass in the lake and had even seen some attacking bait from what he could tell.

We was shorebound and fishing the shallow 'canal' behind the big island - not the best place later in the year. I explained a buzzbait and how to fish it to him. This was in April. I thought we were talking about when the season opens.

Being a recent immigrant, he hadn't grasped all the rules and regs yet. I got an email from him - he was all excited having caught his first bass out of the 'canal' right after starting to use the buzzbait. He said the explosion was the most excitement he'd ever known... but, the Conservation Officer who came up to him immediately afterwards wasn't quite as excited.

After some discussions about seasons and creel/size regs, the CO let him go with just a warning, but he admitted it barely dulled the excitement of a new technique that actually worked.

::) Guess I should have explained a few more things to him... still, he was excited.
