Just curious if anyone has been out yet and had any luck?
Water is still pretty cold.
Been out and the big females are biting. So are many of the smaller males. You should go though maybe not today.
Hit Cass last weekend. Main lake was slow, but jerkbaits in the guts produced on the LMB.
I have couple a couple 3.5 pound smallies on Commerce Lake. Probably headed to Clair this weekend weather permitting.
Caught a couple. Sorry
Thanks for all the feedback!
They have been biting in west Michigan.

I don't think you're supposed to hook them like that...

I think the author of the post meant "cuts". I that's what I thought.
That's the joke.
Except it's called Gerundegut Bay... or... the guts as some of us call it... so the jokes works either way... ;D
He could have meant cuts too...
The bay known as "the guts"
I got out a couple times in early March. Had the boat at the marina for a couple weeks for repairs and crappy weather, work since. Both days had little to no wind and partly to mostly sunny. I could see tons of inactive fish sitting in the warm shallows. Only coaxed one 3 1/2 pound lgmouth on one trip and caught 5 shorts in deep water the other trip on a different lake. Looking forward to getting out as the weather looks like it will break a little later in the week.
We should finally string a few nice days together later this week. Finally...
I might go to Clair this weekend. Although we are supposed to have East Winds this week😡.
Anyone know the water temps out on Clair?
It was mid-40s but who knows now with all the crazy weather we've had.
According to coast watch the south and southwest end of the lake is 39-40 degrees. Up the west side it's colder. 37-38 Please post a condition report if you go this weekend. Might head up Sunday afternoon.
I sometimes wonder how accurate Coast watch is because they seem to read a little lower than the surface temperatures I get from boaters at times. I would think it's a little warmer than that. I might go this weekend but it wouldn't be until Sunday either probably if weather conditions allow.
I was going to try to hit St. Clair next Monday but the weather forecast doesn't look that good and my partner is going this week so he can't go next week.
I'll probably just hit something more local next Monday for my first trip out of the year.
I'll be getting out this Sunday for my first trip out with the boat. I'll be hitting my usual west side lakes for some smallies. I'll post my results later Sunday or Monday. On a side note, I brought a few lures with me to Florida over spring break to use with a rental rod around the marina where we stayed. Caught a few small ones and had a snook smash my bait next to the dock but didn't get hooked up. I was using a bait that I've had for years & never used, a Rapala Twitchin Rap. I really liked the subtle shimmy, almost senko-like motion on the fall. Decided I didn't want to lose the lure to any of those Florida saltwater fish so put it back in my box with plans to order more when I got back home. Little did I know that Rapala discontinued the bait. Can't believe I've had that lure for at least 6-8 years and never used it. Oh well, it will get some play time this year.
That will be better than nothing! Good luck.
Finally got out for the season. Water temp was 54 and relatively clear. Caught a dozen smallies and 6 pike. Nothing big, biggest went 3 pounds. Caught them on beavers, lipless crank, jig, and jerk bait. Beautiful day and with this warm weather I'm sure a bunch of guys had some great action today.
My partner and I went to Clair this past Saturday. Water temp was 52 and stained. We caught 40 smallies best 5 went close to 24 pounds. Many 4 pound fish with a few 5 pounders. Nothing smaller than 3 pounds. All on cranks in 8 foot of water.
Hey robhj - where did you fish Sunday? Got out on White Lake for a few hours with my brothers but didn't have the same luck as you! Still trying to figure out how we got blanked.
