Title: Lowrance Temp Sensors
Post by: Eric on August 20, 2007, 06:23:06 AM
Neither of mine are working.

I had a 320 in the console with the puck transducer in the hull and temp probe next to the motor, and X-something on the bow.  Late last summer I put a 480 in the console and moved the 320 to the bow.  The 480 had a skimmer transducer so I mounted it on the transom.  I broke it off in Wisconsin last fall.  I plugged the 320 stuff into the 480 and everything worked great, except the temp gage.  Are they not compatible, or might I have messed soething up?

When I moved the 320 to the bow, I just plugged the X-whatever stuff into it and everythng worked great.  This year, the temp gage has not worked at all.  Short of replacing the transducer, any ideas?

Eric,

I believe the 480 has the blue connectors and the 320 has the grey connectors, right? If so, the transducer will work but the temp sensor will not.  Temp sensors on transducers with the grey connectors are not forward compatible with units having the blue connectors.

You can pick up a separate, dedicated, temp sensor separately that will work with the 480.    This one goes inline with the transducer and should do the trick (Note: links are to EZODs.com but you can pick them up any place that carries Lowrance accessories):

If the 480 is network-ready, you call also pick up a network temp sensor: http://www.ezods.com/go/store/details/Lowrance_EP-35_Temperature_Sensor (http://www.ezods.com/go/store/details/Lowrance_EP-35_Temperature_Sensor)

That is the case with the 480.  I wil have to get one of those sensors.  I found the problem with the 320.  The transducer cable is broke.  It was broke enough to have then temp gage not work, but the graph worked still.  I broke it the rest of the way last night, so I guess I need a new one of those now, too.
