Title: Dial a buoy help
Post by: Dan on August 10, 2007, 09:56:00 AM
I know I have read about this buoy system on GLB before. Anybody if there is a dial a buoy for the Cleveland area on Erie???

The closest offshore buoy in US waters to Cleveland is 45005.  You can see all of the buoy locations and numbers with weather data here (http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/maps/EastGL.shtml).

The dial a buoy number and instructions are here: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/dial.shtml (http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/dial.shtml).

Hope that helps.

Dan -

This is the reason your board works. Nice info. Need to pass this around. It could save someone's life.

Weather 45005 is currently out of order.  It is supposed to be back up and running but I will bet that it won't happen until next spring.  The Canadian Buoy northeast of Cleveland number 45132 is operational.  I use dial a buoy all the time.  Got it on speed dial on my cell phone.  Greatest invention since the 10 cent pay toilet and sliced bread.
