Title: Football jig line recommendations
Post by: robhj on March 21, 2015, 08:54:39 PM
For many yrs I have used braid to fluoro on all my spinning rods, straight fluoro on my, straight mono on my topwater & crankbait rods, straight braid on my frog rod & pitching rod, and this year I'm trying out some new line on my spinnerbait & lipless crank rods by Suffix called Super 21 which is a 21% stretch resulting in 40% less stretch than regular mono. For $5 per 300 yd spool it seemed worth it to try. I'm thinking about respooling my worm/jig rod which I usually throw footballs jigs on with a braid to fluoro connection and still use 15lb fluoro for my leader. I currently have all fluoro on that rod. How many of you use a braid to fluoro leader when throwing football jigs, heavier tubes, bifflehead type baits? It just seems to me you could save a lot of money going braid to fluoro leader for most applications. I'd be curious to hear your feedback & also what type/pound test everyone uses for their various applications. Here's mine: Frog-65# braid, topwater (mostly spooks)-17 mono, spinnerbait-14-17 advanced mono, dropshot-15 braid to 8-10 fluoro leader, spinning (wacky rig, tubes, finesse swimbaits, grubs) 15 braid to 8-10 fluoro, pitching-50 braid or 25 big game mono, jerkbait-10# fluoro, crankbaits-10-14 mono. Thanks for the feedback.
