Frank and I are boater #1, and we are inviting all GLB members to join us for a trip to Bolles Harbor. We are hoping for 2 more boaters for obvious safety reasons. Proposed dates are:
Nov 29th - Friday
If we can get 5 or more, maybe we hold a mini tournament !!
Anyway, Im building a bonfire on the sand bar if we get 4 or more boats, maybe a cooler of beer, coffee and some hot dogs over the fire........ Anyone with input to add to this stone soup gathering, please join in !!

Steve, we're working on another boat, see if we can fit you in. I don't mind fishing 3 to a boat. Weather is actually supposed to get nicer on Friday. Maybe even see 40? Will be in the 50's on the hot pond.
Biggest problem I see so far would be ice at the launch. Seeing the news coverage of the guy who jumped into the Sag-Nasty River, there are chunks of ice floating already. Not fun to run a bass boat in.

Maybe Mojo could get the ice breaker Mackinaw to come over and clean the channel out if needed. No ice on my lake but the little ones have some.

You guys are going to want to check this water guage at Fermi, anything less than 15" and the sand bars and a couple logs start to become very hazardous, on a light wind youl be fine but when it blows out of the west it can drop the water level 2 feet. Last thing you want to do is be stuck in 5" of water (done that) or rip a lower unit and or prop up.

I went couple of weeks ago with my buddy who had been there twice earlier and it SUCKED, so I don't know where the report came from that is was on fire. water was down, extremely dirty, and the only bite was very very lite and slow. biggest barely made 2lbs, I'll be interested to hear how you do.

Trolls are persons who go around the Internet posting things to just start trouble. The wonderful members on GreatLakesBass.com are NOT trolls (non-members CAN'T be trolls because they CAN'T post!!!).
There's always something you can share on here about ANY fishing trip. If you think you can't you're missing the whole point of the forum...? If you have big secrets don't tell them. But you can share plenty of general information and/or just some of the fun you had out there. Maybe someone caught a catfish on a crankbait? Or maybe someone hooked into a big sheephead? Maybe one of you got on a hot bite on a hot lure?
It's not like all 2,500+ members are ever going to be able to go on the same trip somewhere together physically...
What a crappy forum it would be if everyone posted about trips or events they were going to go on and then didn't share any stories or pictures or anything on the forum ever??
The best forums are the ones where members give and take fairly evenly. It's the time of year for a bunch of us when ANY story is a good story. :)
The best part of sharing something is you may help me convert a few more non-members (lurkers - maybe that is what you meant?) into members! That often helps make a better forum - 'the more, the merrier' principal - which is good for all of us! (except for the guy who invented the helicopter lure maybe...?? ;D )
That helicopter lure really works. ;) I've used it in the hot pond. ;) Caught a catfish on it.

Interesting thing that DID happen. A small boat approached us, knew all about us, by name, but they were not members. Even asked if we were gonna build a fire later like we posted. They walked their boat in, told us we were late ! They were regular fishermen who fish there all winter, but havent yet posted on GLB of their adventures. This kind of reminded me of what someone who actually is posting on this topic now, who took me there once, and asked me not to tell the world about it. He was worried that folks come to the website, gather information, but dont contribute, like a motor trolling through the water. I have no problem with him, and neither should you. Sooooo everyone chill and YES Bolles is frozen over with 2 inches of ice for hundreds of yards. Don't ask how we got out, but mike Smiph has all the video on Facebook !
Oh and what we did was borderline dumb. Conditions were perfect. A few helpful hints for the world, members and "readers" (maybe a Lil strong referring to them as trolls), like disclaimers to prevent GLB from getting sued:
Don't go out alone with one boat if you haven't been there. There are the reefs on both sides of the entrance, and especially when you leave Bolles to avoid. So go out a mile to avoid them.
The winds, water levels and waves need to be near perfect to get in. I didn't know this until the other day. Experience tells. Winds from the east more than 8-10 mph will draw waters on that shore down. The fermi chart IS true. The water levels will rip you lower unit off.
Waves height will kill you. If waves are building, you cannot follow the shore to get out, you must go straight out a mile into them.
Days of west wind push and muddy the water. Chocolate shuts everything down.
Recommend going a FEW times with someone experienced.
How's that for being helpful.

we did well for chocolate water. about 15 to 20.

I take this quote kind of personal. I was one of the "Trolls" in the small plastic boat, sharing my knowledge, experience, baits with Mojo, Mike Smith, and Dartag... I am on so many different message boards, My wife will leave me if I joined one more.. LOL... This is why I never registered years ago.. Not much extra time to share. But the "troll" mentality is garbage and djkimmel has hit the nail on the head. Infact so hard that this is the main reason I did register. Just to let him know.

BTW... We caught quite a few bass also.. Nothing over 3 lbs. All 1/2 oz blade baits jigged slow on the bottom from 3-12 ft. Water temp was 64* and clearer than normal. You could see 12-18 inchs down.

Must have been the weather or moon phase. There were 2 guys at the ramp that drove from Kalamazoo to try and fish. They had launched there boat then pulled it out because of the ice. They did stay around and make fun of us trying to get the boats started.
Your plastic boats need a sticker " My other boat is a Bullet ". BTW what prop do you run on the little motor....

Everyone needs to take things down a notch. I'm familiar with all the guys posting here and you're all reasonable people. Doesn't matter if you're coming from BBC or GLB, I've not experienced friendship and generosity like I have with people on these boards anywhere else. Some guys don't sign up or post because they're not the kind of people to participate in an online community, but I think the minute we start treating these sites with information exclusivity, we'll lose what's great about them.
You guys have been talking about the hot pond for at least 2 years now. Whenever it is when I joined it's somewhere that I've been wanting to fish. Glad that everyone had a good, SAFE time out there. Hopefully more trips will happen, but without the hostility. Geez.

I've had a wonderful touch of someone's cold for the past 8 days so I'm not watching real close. Sorry to see someone joined to respond to basically a personal smear... but I'm glad he joined (especially considering he had some problems signing up - if anyone reads this and has problems please take a few notes and send them to me so I can be aware of possible problems -thanks!).
And speaking of little problems and notifying me of them, I'm glad to see overall this thread was worked out - anyone who see anyone else calling people any kind of negative name or attacking the way they do things please use the report to moderator link in the post to notify me. I definitely do not support anyone calling others who are members or visitors here trolls (or meat hunters or any other negative thing just because they are different). I'm not real fond of any assumption or assertion that someone who doesn't think exactly like you is any kind of negative to this website. That kind of thinking is more negative to this community website.
I hope there won't be anymore calling other people trolls or whatever. I can't afford to have people come here and think that is the kind of community we have. Because it's not. It often takes people a while to decide to sign up, and they won't be more likely to sign up if they see a 'regular' member calling them trolls.
I prefer people sign up, but I'm not chasing away anyone because I like everyone who bothers to visit the website for information realizing that some will eventually join too when they see something that gets to them just right, or after they've decided they will be okay on the site. It's a lot more helpful and productive to post information that people are looking for, and make the occasional call to people in general to sign up and join if they're finding helpful information on here.
I'm going to be more aggressive about things that smack of 'you're not our type of people' kind of stuff. We don't all have to think alike or do things exactly the same (and only one) way to have a real good community.
I will continue to try to come up with ways to get more people to sign up and participate, and I'd appreciate any of you who do the same. I always can use help there.

No more video. I'm just learning how to use the camera. Yes, we saw several of the eagles. Beautiful things. Never could get close enough for pictures.
Many of the eagles are young and don't have the white head yet. I have yet to see one come down and grab a fish. After fishing here as much as I have, It surprises me.

Yep... Bob Bingham and I go way back.. I kinda talked Bob into getting the Gambler. I also helped him set it up and got his props for him... Infact, I have a proto type 28P that Bob said he wanted. I have called him a couple times and left voice mails with him... Please let Bob know I'm going to sell this prop if he don't get back to me. His boat will run over 80 with it. He already ran it to 79 gps on Belleville with the motor too low on the jackplate.
I didn't fish the hot pond in my big boat this fall as I have been busier than ever... But it's all good... ;D

This may be possible. I normally spend 1 week per year on the west side of the state. Many times in Ludington at Hamlin lk, Pentwater at St Marys or Bass lake.. We don't have any plans yet, so I'm not sure whats happening.
My boat is 21ft 10 inchs and rides much better than what most people think a lightweight "race boat" ::) would. ;D I spend lots of time on StClair.
