Title: Erie/Detroit River 10-2-2013
Post by: Skulley on October 04, 2013, 08:46:33 PM
Took a vacation day/stress relief day from work Wednesday and went to Erie and the Detroit River. Started with an early run to Holiday Beach out along Erie's Canadian shore line. From Bar Point eastward it was muddy. The further east I went the muddier it got and the wind increased. I decided that I would fish some wrecks and zebra muscle beds I had on my GPS. I caught nothing on the muscle beds. I caught 4 keepers in the 2.5lb range off 3 of 5 wrecks I fished. I spent about 2.5 hours doing this before I decided to head back toward the River and up the river a ways to some largemouth spots I had on the Canadian side that I hadn't fished in a couple of years off the Amhersburg Channel.  In 3 different areas I caught 8 nice largemouths in the 3 to 4lb range. I had several other 2 to 2.5lb keepers. I moved over to some largemouth water on the U.S. side and managed to catch 9 more keepers all around 3lbs. Toward the end of the day I moved out into the mouth of the river to check if the smallies were starting to move in to heir fall patterns that usually take place out there this time of year. I had 4 pick ups but no hook ups.  Baits for the day were tubes, crank baits, and spinnerbaits.

Water temps were from 63 to 67 degrees depending on location. All in all a great day to be out and the weather couldn't have been better for early October. I believe as the fall season progresses it's only going to get better. The best fishing is yet to come.
