I have spent the last 2 weeks patterning a buck that crosses the property I hunt on. I had to wait for an east wind for my setup and after anxiously waiting I got in my treestand this afternoon with an east wind in my face. Everything was perfect for the ambush and I could already taste the backstraps. Then the combine starts up, the corn rows that I have watched this buck come out of every night are disappearing like Twinkies at a weight watchers meeting. By the second pass I watched 8 deer run out of the corn the wrong way. My buck was with them, seems to be my luck lately.
I sure wish the farmer could have waited another day, but with rain forecast for tomorrow I guess I can't blame him. Back to the drawing board...
Sounds just like some bass tournaments I've fished...
My problem on Sat. was gunfire. Every property owner within a mile was blasting off round after round sighting in their guns. Any deer I did see was on high alert, just like opening morning.
I here ya there, last night I heard several "one shot sight-ins". I hunt a pretty rural area and I've found truck tracks and gut piles opening morning a couple times now. I think the local dnr is understaffed for this area, alot of people must assume if they hang it after opening morning they won't get caught. We camped in this area one night a few years ago and we heard shots all through the night.
I can never understand the guys that have to go out and shoot one the night before the opener.
What's another 12 hours?
Or is it that they're afraid of competition the next day?
I don't get it, but from where I live I can hear it happening all around me.
It is probaly the competion thing some people just can't stand being beat. It dosen't bother me a bit I have learned that thru bass fishing tournements. I still see some people that it really bothers them when they get beat. The way my partner and I look at it is if they are paying 3 places we will take 4th if they pay 4 places we are in 5th and so forth. So we have learned that we are there to fish, learn and have fun. Winning isn't everything but 2nd SUCKS.
Stay at it STACK!!!! You and Rick keep going and one night you'll be thinking that everybody else must have had a phenomenal night... and when you weigh-in, the scales will tip in your favor... I promise ya.
joshimoto son ;D
No problem with me quiting Josh, Cause quitters NEVER win and I'm no quitter.
