Hey guys ,
Losing too many fish on these lures with the stock hooks so wanted to try changing them out.
Primary fish great lakes for smallies .
What are some hooks/sizes I should consider when replacing the stock hooks on 5/6xd cranks or deep cranks in general?
Thanks for any help guys!
1. kvd triple grips
2. regular triple grips (mustad)
a good crankbait rod will make a big difference as well.
KVD Triple grips and a Kistler Helium composite crankbait rod
Thanks guys.
Are the kvd triple grips you guys are referring to the short shank hooks?
yes. kvds are the short shank version of the regular triple grips. you can usually get away with using the next size bigger.
Been using Mustad Triple Grips for a long, long time. Probably since about the time they first came out. I really like the newer, shorter shank hooks in a slightly bigger size. I don't often go to a number 2 but will if the lure supports it and still has great action. I use lots of the number 4.
Since I don't fish the tournaments anymore, I've gotten a little lazy and sloppy with crankbait trebles, but I still have a big box full of original crankbait trebles of many shapes and sizes (usually a size or two too small). I should probably bag those babies up and put them in a garage sale somewhere... I'm sure someone would use them!
