Title: Outdoor Channel to air BASS events
Post by: Dan on March 10, 2011, 03:21:17 PM
From Bass Fan

At the recent New Orleans Bassmaster Classic, B.A.S.S. ownership partner Jerry McKinnis stated that he'd struck a deal with Outdoor Channel (OC) to re-broadcast episodes of The Bassmasters.

Details of the deal were made public today. The Bassmasters will air on OC through Q2 and Q3 of this year, starting March 28.

Under the terms of the deal, OC will air 26 weeks of programming including the 2011 Bassmaster Classic and Elite Series as well as "several of the top episodes from 2010." Episodes will air Friday nights within the fishing block and will appear approximately 30 days after their original broadcast on ESPN2.

Great.  I don't get the Outdoor Channel.  And it's a pretty penny to upgrade to the next level just for one channel.  darn.

I get the Outdoor Channel through Comcast in the Lansing area. Can't remember if it came with the extra sport package or not. I get that, Sportsman Channel, Verses and WFN.

Someone posted earlier that they were able to request just one channel and pay less. Can't recall for sure if that was Comcast or another provider?

It's channel 730 on my Comcast box.   They have a couple fishing show but it is mostly re-runs.  The Ultimate Match Fishing is fun but they are old episodes.  Better than wathing Opra.

I've got direct tv and the outdoor channel didn't come with the package I have so I called them and asked them about it.  They gave it to me by itself for an additional charge.  This was awhile back and it started at $2.00 a month and now it's $2.50 a month.

I think you are the one I was remembering. Not sure if that would work for Comcast. I bought a package less than $10.00 per month to get several of them along with some sports channels I almost never watch.

I have noticed some additional outdoor programming now sporadically on a Comcast channel and a couple other channels that I can't recall what they are.

I think direct tv is the way to go for sports and outdoor programing.
I get versus, outdoor channel, sportsmans channel, and the pursuit channel.

I saw on another thread people bashing versus.  At certain times they have some really good shows if you look for them.  City limits fishing, scott martain challenge, flw, jimmy houston's show, hank parker's show, roland martain's, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some.  If you break it down, they show more fishing shows than any other channel I get....

Guess I missed that. They do have quite a few outdoors and fishing shows on Versus. I have a channel category for them on the GreatLakesBass.com Video Service (http://www.greatlakesbass.com/vid/categories/Versus-Outdoors/1037/page1.html) because they have their own Youtube channel though that Versus Outdoors channel is almost all hunting videos.

vs has got to be one of the best.  Charlie moore, big bass challenge, bass pro's, I have hook and look on my dvr favs but that might be on espn. Plus all the other salt water shows and hunt for big fish. And on and on and on.... I think I'm trying to justify not giving comcast any more $.

Hook and Look is on Versus also. Now available on WFN too. Larry Dahlberg is one of my favorites.

Larry D has to be one of the more educated as far as lures go. The show were he goes through his musky lures and tells about them all is awsome.  Hook n look has to be one of the most realist bass fishing shows I have seen. I have picked up more tips/tricks on that show then any other.

I believe the bassmaster events will still originally air on ESPN2, and the Outdoor channel will pick them up afterwards.  So we should all still be able to watch these, no matter what programming we have.

Here is a quote that I read:

"The hour-long Bassmaster episodes will appear on Outdoor Channel approximately 30 days after their original air dates on ESPN2 and its affiliated networks."

The original post on this thread said that it would air on OC 30 days after airing on ESPN2.
I have Comcast and have Outdoor Channel. It's part of the Digital Preferred package.  However, if I want WFN and Sportsman Channel I have to get the Sports Entertainment package for an additional $7.95, and also includes stellar programming from the Tennis Channel, the Fox Soccer Channel, Mav TV and more.  What a bunch of crap!   I would gladly lose a couple of garbage channels from the Digital Preferred's package to get WFN and Sportsman Channel.  Cable needs to be ala carte.  I would like to dump Comcast, but like the internet speeds.  I haven't had time to research all the options but will in the next few months unless things pick up.  I recently read that Comcast has lost hundreds of thousands of subscribers in the last year.  If they don't change, they might lose at least one more...me.

If this is going to be a Comcast bashing forum... Sign me up! >:(
Its by far the best option... just get your wallet out.

Espn can KMA.  I cant believe my dvr cut the final minutes of the classic out.

Keep trying for that discount rate. They're already amenable in my area so your area should follow at some point.

That's great.  Since I upgraded to get the Soccer Channel, as well as the Sportman Channel, and the Outdoor Channel, I have not regretted the extra 7 or 8 dollars.  Well worth it.  Alec gets to watch all the soccer he can and I get to watch all the fishing I can.  It's all good!!!

OK, I was completely wrong.  I DO get the Outdoor Channel!!  We've been changing our Comcast package around a bit the last several months... and it seems the one we are on now has ODC!!  Sweet!   ;D

its only 5 bucks through charter - but i have hard time paying that when i get 200 channels of BS i don't want already. my bill is high enough. OC needs to be on regular cable - they should just drop vs cuz it sucks bad

We're in the process of going from Comcast to AT&T U-verse. I got a chance to meet Mark Zona at the Portage BPS and when I told him I was adding the extra sports package just to get his show on the Outdoor channel he gave me a high five.  lolol   :D  Then I asked if he planned on staying on that channel.  lol  He said he had signed a 5 year contract, unless he messes up again.  lolol

Versus does not suck. It has Hook n Look, City Limits Fishing, two of my favorites. Best thing about Versus is NHL Hockey. If anything they should add to the basic for what we pay for that, not take away.  That's what makes us individuals though. I may like something you don't and vice versa. Everybody has different preferences. Ain't freedom great!!  :D

Versus seems to offer some decent outdoor programming so I don't know why they would get slammed here. One of my beefs with Comcast is that they treat customers differently depending on where you live.  Dan mentioned earlier that he got a better deal (or something like that) when he bartered with them.  I tried and it didn't work.  I know that Dan is getting more channels for less money than I am.  I don't think I like that too much.

I don't blame you. If another, better option comes along, I will quit in protest for you.

My only option would be WOW since I need my Tivo (it doesn't work with satellite).  I guess I'll have to research WOW indepth.  They always offer the low price options in their ads but I need (okay, want) the speed of the fastest internet. OR...maybe I'll just have to hire Dan to be my cable programming acquisition agent.

Oh yeah. That sounds like a great plan.

I got a company called Brighthouse. They are affiliated with Time-Warner somehow. I get everything Comcast gets and then some.  Best part is that they are cheaper than Comcast and Satellite and I get more. Versus, Outdoor, and Sportsmans Channel are all in tiers.  Versus is part of basic. The other two are part of the sports tier along with the Soccer Channel and Fuel as well as some more ESPN and more.  Being a sports fanatic, I thought it was worth getting all that and MLB and NHL too.
