Title: Larger than normal Gizzard Shad Die Off
Post by: Mojo on February 03, 2011, 12:09:08 AM
Article stating LSC and lower Great lakes is being especially tough on gizzard shad this year. Wonder how that sets up for smallie movements in the spring. Also wonder, since last was such a large year AND the crank bite was so good, maybe there just wasnt a need for the smallies to head into the channels and head up to Stag ? Your thoughts welcome:

Not sure. I wondered if there's so many gobies in the lake right now, many smallies didn't think to leave? Or maybe the big schools of minnows didn't run the river? Or it is somehow temperature related?

I saw a Windsor news report about a large shad die off along the Detroit River shore recently too.
