Title: Hookin' Up Heros
Post by: Eric on January 06, 2011, 08:36:42 PM
The 2011 event will be June 18th at Hardy out of Newaygo State Park.  For those who haven't heard of the event, it is a benefit event for disabled veterans and those with brain injuries.  They hold a motorcycle poker run and a bass tournament.  The bikes will come to the park at weigh in time.  Each boater will be paired with a veteran or two for the day of fishing.  Fishing will be from 10-3.  There will be lots of prizes for the vets, and the boaters sure don't go home empty handed.  We are looking for boaters to spend the day fishing with these guys.  The park will give each boater a free night of camping if they choose.  Should you choose to participate in this event, I 100% promise you will not be disappointed.  Spending a day with these guys, talking, fishing, story telling, eating afterwards, etc will be a life changing event. If you are interested in being a boater for the event, or would like more information, please let me know.  We are creating a list of interested people so we can keep in touch as the year progresses and keep everyone informed.  Feel free to pass this on to anyone you think might be interested in helping out.  Thank you.

Very nice early notice - thanks! I will help if I can but won't know for sure until early May probably. I hope this gets more volunteers this way!

Just an update.

The Quality Inn & Suites in Big Rapids is offering discounted rooms for anyone coming to attend this event.  They are offering rooms for $60 for Friday and/or Saturday for any who choose.  The 11th person (and 26 if they get that far) will get their rooms for free as well.  This event is shaping up to be spectacular.  Live music presenting the colors at take off and the weigh in.  Big crowd for the weigh in.  Transit transportation for all fisherman to the host restaurant for dinner and ceremony after weigh in.  Hired security to watch the boats and trucks while we're gone.  Military flyover and so on.  I'm sure I'm forgetting something.  Hit me up for me details if you are interested and aren't on my list already.
