I am trying to put together a west side rendezvous on St. Clair next Spring. When would be a good rough date to shoot for? We would be going over and staying at a convenient motel and then fun fishing for a three day weekend.
Those who haven't been there, or have older boats, could and will travel in groups and fish near one another. A little peace of mind for the big water trip. So, my question is, what is the best May date?
doesn't matter to me. should make it the same weekend as the dk open if possible!
Sounds fun ... although im a east sider. Can I still come ;D
I was thinking about a 3 or 4 day camping (tent) trip in the late spring. 8)
DK Open will be there in May. Would be fun.

i'm in
Too much talk and not enough action. I need the best, Numeral Uno, no brainer, can't miss, only weekend to come, date.
I get asked this question many, many times thru out the year and I find the best and most honest answer is: "just pick a weekend and make the best of the conditions given". The fishing is always good somewere on the lake just about all year. Eveyone thinks you have to be here in the spring/spawn for good fishing, and that is true if your not out there enough to know whats going on but the best days I know of this season came in the last week of October and early November when guys were catching big numbers of smallies on blade baits deep. That being said, the best weekend in the early season changes from year to year. 2010 had a fast warmup in early April which had the fish bedding very early and then by opening weekend (April 29th) we had a hard cool down that drove the fish back out. Two seasons before, the 3rd weekend of May was on fire. Evey year is different because the weather is always different. All that being said, If I were planning a group trip and had to lock down a weekend, I would plan the 2nd or 3rd weekend of May. The smallies will be pre-spawn/spawn and the canals should be on fire with largemouth if the wind blows.

Yours is a reasonable and well thought out response. ;)
