Title: Larry Dekker passed away last night - my best friend and fishing partner
Post by: djkimmel on May 19, 2006, 11:32:14 AM
I'm sorry to share the sad news that Larry Dekker, long-time federation member and past-president, passed away last night in Lansing from pneumonia and other complications he struggled with following his liver transplant.

I will post details of services here once they become available for anyone interested in knowing them.

Larry was my best friend and so much more, and I will miss him terribly. There's so many things I want to say, but I'm not ready yet.

Dan,
So sorry to hear the news.  If there is every anything I can do, please don't hesitate to ask.  Our prayers are with you and all those who were close to Larry.  There are no words that we could say that would change the way you feel other than "we care about you and your family" and we're here for you.  Knowing your character Dan, and the fact that you and Larry were best friends, assures that he must have also been a stand-up, high character guy.  You must have been grateful to have had him in your life.  Perhaps that gratitude can soothe some of the loss your feeling.

Lt. Dan I would like to add my condolences as well. Losing a friend is something I truly can relate to and it sucks. The problem with getting older is we experience these bumps in the road more and more, but hopefully our alignment with the Lord and the steadfastness of family and friends enable us to continue to move along. Granted it may be at a slow and steady pace, but because our support group things do get better. I know  when I pass that I hope that my legacy would be such that people would think of me from time to time. Being remember, I think is what we all hope for, so hold those memories dear, and keep a picture of your buddy close, and talk to him often.

Thanks everyone. I took yesterday off and fished the ABA event - I had promised Anthony quite a while ago I would fish this one. It was very nice to be out on the big Lake St. Clair for the first time this year, and relaxing and calming to be doing what I enjoy so much. It helped me think about all the good things and times with Larry.

Here are the details of services for any readers who want to know:
