Title: Grand Traverse first week of October
Post by: JB on September 08, 2010, 06:48:45 AM
Heading up first week of October for first time.  What can I expect.  What about other lakes if we get blown off.  East or West Bay deep or shallow.  Thanks.

I'll be there this weekend and let you know what I find. I will be starting in East Bay on Friday and give you a report.

Started out on Friday about 6:30 am and had to fight the salmon boats a little at the East Bay DNR ramp on M37. We started out on the east side of East Bay on the shore line by Acme with the water temp around 67 degrees and a East wind of 6 mph. First few fish came in 32 foot of water and averaged about 2lbs. Most were caught on tubes and a few on drop shots. Moved across the bay, just south of the ramp, and the action picked up around 11 am. Largest fish on Friday was just over 5 lbs with an average around 3 lbs.

hey lee,when u found the bigger fish at 11 o clock,where they still deep,the 30 32 feet...
i ask because me and a friend were up there on monday the 13 fishing the west bay and we weren't catching anything, water temp was 64,then my friend catch's a 2 pounder in 30 feet,so we slow down and start to mine the deeper stuff and managed a few fish but no big one's,all came from 26-30 feet deep and more towards the 30 feet
going to be back up there in a week helping a friend paint a house and i will be bringing the boat ;D

We focused on steep drops and fished really slow in the 25-35 foot areas. We found some low lying weeds in that area and thats where we found the larger fish. We fished Venom avacado tubes with orange flake, rigged on a 3/8oz jig head and Zoom 4" finesse worms in pumpkin on the drop shot. I also caught a few nice fish on a jigging spoon. The first day we went out, we could see schools of fish working up the drop offs and then back down into the deep. With the weather change this past week, some schools might be shallow looking for food. I might try a Spook or a shallow running crank in the flats near the steep drops.

Heading back up this weekend. Any recomendations on if I should fish the bays or head into Skegemog or Elk?
