Going back up to Traverse next week and will be on East bay for a few days. I havent fished it in the fall before and didn't know if anyone had any tips?
not sure which bay he was in - but a friend of mine was catching some toads in 30-40 FOW on perch rigs while perch fishing last weekend. Said he couldn't keep them away from his bait.
I figure if its anything like St. Clair and Erie have been, some deep divers and the typical tube or dropshot will be key. Just not sure where to start.
I haven't been there in a while, but the water was ultra clear. I could see down past 35 feet clearly on the bottom. You can try the sand flats looking for weed clumps closer to Traverse City, or just work rock edges from Elk Rapids north. Lots of great looking water with the bass often concentrated in small places. Thanks for joining and please give us a fishing report when you get back.
I've heard good things in the spring about the south shore in front of the state park and year round by old mission point and the east shore by Acme.
Those are all good general areas from what I've heard too though I've only personally been on Mission Point once. It was a dead calm day and I could not even see any life down past 36 or 38 feet deep. Too calm. Too bright and too clear that day. I'm not much for fishing deep if I have an alternative so I went looking for better shallow cover. The bays are on my list of places I'd like to fish more.
A friend of mine and I were talking about Old Mission point the other day....He spends alot of time up there and I have been up there a few times and neither of us have done very well.....It sure looks good though....
I like fishing south of Elk Rapids.....
