Title: Lake Hamlin in Ludington,Mi.
Post by: ScottK on August 30, 2010, 12:31:28 AM
I am in a club from Elkhart,In. and we are going to be up on Lake Hamlin the week of Sept. 20th to the 26th. Does anyone have a good fishing report for that time of year and what to throw to catch good smallies up there? some good spots would be helpful.

There are some nice smallies in Hamlin, but I'm not sure I'd specifically target them.  There are many more largemouth in there.  I am planning on fishing it a day or so after the DK Open on White lake the week before you go.  I can give you a report and some tips then.  Make sure to email me September 14th or 15th.  Jsreg23@aol.com     Put Hamlin Lake in the subject heading. Oh, and by the way I live in Mishawaka, neighbor.  lolol

I live on the southeast side of town.  Just off Capitol a mile south of Lincolnway.  To be honest I don't fish a lot around here.  Mostly in Michigan on trips.  I do hit the river for steelies the end of Sept and October though.  We can get out some time if you want.

I'm going to move this to inland lakes where a few other people who frequent Hamlin Lake might notice it and pipe in (like Dan).

Just got back from Hamlin was up there for 2 weeks camping at the state park. As of right now the lake is a mess from a lot of wind. Saw a club weight in last Saterday and only 3 limits, not so good for the lake this time of year.

I'm up here right now.  Fished 4 hours yesterday and only caught 4 smallies with two being keepers (15 inches) and one sheepy.  Weather was stormy today.  Got out tonight for just 45 minurs and got a 2 1/2 pound lgmouth and lost one other..It's tough.

What about drop shotting? Try jerk baits on the sand dune flats. Usually in the mornings you can catch them on pop r's. let me know how it goes. Thanks Jeff.

Sorry Scott.  Unless I change my mind by morning I won't be out on Hamlin this trip.  I'm thinking about hitting the PM for Salmon in the am.  I fished Manistee lake/river today for bass.

Hey Luke,

I actually fished PM Lake.  It's right here in Ludington.  I fished in the back end, somewhat close to where the river comes in.  I did very well.  Saw quite a few fish caught.  I threw inline spinners for them and went 4 for 6.  They ran 5,7,9 and 10 plus pounds.  Here is a pic.    Jeff

Caught them casting my trusty orange oslo's.   :)  I caught most on my crankin rod.  It sure was strange feeling the hit on the fiberglass, that's for sure.  But it was nice and flexible for the fights.  I think I'm heading up Thursday evening so I can try for them again Friday.  :)
