Actually had this happen last night!! Martin and I were fishing our Wed. night Gander Mountain club tournament on Wabasis Lake last night when a very intense storm cell formed off in the distance and rapidly advanced overhead. There was almost no lightening or thunder but the rain was so intense, and the drops so big that the bilge pump (2000 gph!) could not keep up. Then there was the "lull in the storm" you always hear about and less than 1/4 mile away we see the rotation... then it gets faster and bigger... then it moves down towards the tree tops, then back up to the sky... then back down, all the while it's still dead calm where we are standing in the boat, we are still fishing by the way.... one eye on the rotating blackness and one eye on the weed line and our lines.
So... what did we do? Well we had 3 keepers in the boat and our bite was not too bad... we kept fishing!! In fact... not one boat (21 boats total) headed for shore/ramp. It happened so fast and was done so fast there really wasn't much of an opportunity to do anything. Then as fast as it appeared it was gone. Total time elapsed: about 5 minutes. 5 minutes later it was sunny again and the storm had moved east. The top of the storm cloud was WAY up there and it was quite an awesome view. My girlfriends boys and their dad were tubing on the lake at the same time and they did take some shelter at the ramp for a short period of time. They had the same great story when they got home. Their mom however was not all that impressed and will probably have some words for the ex at some point today! >:(
By the way... Martin and I had the only 5 fish limit last night... 7.89 lbs (I didn't say we had a BIG limit!! LOL!!) and good for 1st place. Fish on... weather be darned!!
had a funnel cloud go over morse reservoir in indy a few years ago. What did i do? i got the camera. lol. Then hid under someones retractable awning as the mother of all storms let loose for like 20 minutes.
Listen up kids. Do NOT follow these examples! Repeat. Do NOT follow these examples!! That is all.
Actually the best thing to do in a situation like that is put your head between your legs and kiss your behind goodbye!!! :P :o
BD ;D
I thought it was "stop, drop and roll".
We are getting old, those of us who remember the old 'stop, drop and roll...'
Though I was told by one of my elders to use the BD method. I didn't really like it very much.
Now I thought drop, stop, and roll was in case of fire. ;)
BD ;D
Hey! You use the reference wrong your way! We'll use it wrong ours!! :o
You guys are too funny. I've heard of this stop, drop and roll thing a few times !!!! lololol
You guys probably practice it an hour after Joe Bob's bad chili!! :D
Where's the fire?!?! ???
BD. ;D
Somewhere near the smoke. As usual.
You guys need to quit playing with matches.
That means a lot coming from someone who doesn't have enough sense to come in out of the TORNADO!!! ;D
Do as I say, not as I do.
Cannot begin to tell you how many times I heard THAT as a kid! LOL!! ;D
Break the chain! Break the chain!
waterfoul are you going into competition with McWarter on story telling because if you are ou had better practise. You story was good and I enjoyed it but Brian has you beat
ha ha
mike forgot to tell you that when it started raining....dozens of bees started swarming the boat they were everywhere even in both of our hoods in our rain gear...it didnt bother me too much but mike is allergic! luckly none of us got stung
Pretty much verifies that an insanity plea would be accepted ;D or once again we just missed the Apocalypse!!
Yeah! I totally forgot to mention the dang bees!! They were everywhere... you wanna see a look of panic on a mans face? Put me in a swarm of bees and I get REALLY defensive!!
Oldjigger... Brian had a full day of "story" to tell... mine happened in a grand total of 20 minutes or so... I stretched it out as best I could! LOL!!
