When using braid to fluorocarbon set up for drop shotting, what is the preferred lb. test for braid and the floro leader? Does braid color make a difference? Do you use the same setup for tubes?
Thanks for any help.
I use 8/30 lb. test braid with 10 lb floro.
I use 20# power pro with 8# fluoro leader, Leader length depends on water clarity and how high above bottom I want the bait to sit. I don't think braid color would make a difference but all I've used is the green. I fish tubes on straight 6# or 8# fluoro.
In the past I've always used 15-20# Power Pro, tied with a uni to uni knot with 8# fluoro. I used about a 3 or 4' leader. I did this more for convenience (should I have to retie) than worry about line shyness on the part of the fish.
This year I've gone to just all fluoro carbon on my drop shot set up. I also switched to a ml spinning rod. I suppose I've lost some sensitivity, but I really don't think I've lost fish because of it. It does make it easier out on the water when I have to retie.
For tubes. I started a few years ago using 15# Power Pro for the main line. To the end of it I tie a snap swivel. I have in my tube box a bunch of tubes already tied with fluoro leaders. I can quickly change from one to the other.
I like this set up for several reasons.
1. Is the quick change option
2. The braid is less dense, and sinks slower. Much of the time, I want my tube to fall slowly down.
3. It's still pretty darn sensitive and that allows me to use a less expensive rod.
4. By using a lesser poundage fluoro than the braid, I can break off if snagged, and it's not that big a deal.
20# power pro 6# Pline Cxx leader. That's only on one set up.I try to keep my braid diameter the same as my fluorocarbon leader.
Lately I've gone all 6# fluorocarbon with no braid backing.Doesn't seem to be much difference for me.Probably a waste of fluorocarbon on my part. :-\' However i use this for my tube set up as well.
i use 20# power pro, tiny black swivel and then 4'-6' of 6# xps floro.
2 years ago I went to 8# P-Line Halo for dropshotting. Glad I did.
I use a lot of P-Line Halo for many things including my dropshotting. I had 8 pound test P-Line Halo on when I caught the toads with the kids on St. Clair a couple weeks ago.
15 lb Power Pro YELLOW braid uni-uni knot to 8 lb P-line floro leader 6' long or so.
I use the yellow braid for visibility... often times you will see the line move well before you feel the fish touch the bait (if you are loose lining your rig or the fish picks up the bait and swims towards you). I know I have landed fish that I would have missed if I didn't see the line moving.
Listen to the Master (waterfoul), or you'll miss the boat! Never would have believed I'd have yellow line on a couple of my reels, but now I do
