Title: B.A.S.S. Sale Announced
Post by: Dan on August 03, 2010, 12:19:24 PM
The long-rumored sale of BASS by ESPN took a big step forward today as the company announced in a press release that it's reached an agreement in principle to sell the organization to a group of investors led by Don Logan, Jerry McKinnis and Jim Copeland.

I was just talking about this to Reelin Realtor yesterday saying there were way too many rumors, especially the ones about Logan and McKinnis, for there not to be a real sale in the near future.

I really hope that BASS moving away from ESPN will help the organization and all it stands for.  I think this is a really good thing and I'm hoping for the best.

I agree, I don't think ESPN put the time or effort needed to keep BASS at the top of the tournament fishing world. Hopefully the new ownership can make the changes necessary and get a good TV deal and get better coverage. Now they'll need a new website also and I hope they don't have a pay area to get decent articles like the BASS Insider. I never subscribed, didn't think I should have to pay to get the indepth information that FLW puts out for free. Plus hopefully next season we can get on line weigh-ins from BASS without having to change internet providers.

it says the Elites and Classic will stay on ESPN networks.   I read somewhere that was the only outdoor programing they were keeping.

That is what the original press release said. Kind of said considering the Fishin' Hole was the 2nd show they ever aired and kind of what I originally remembered ESPN for - outdoors programming.

dartag, are you any relation to Jerry McKinnis? You look a little alike now that I think about it.

I think he is my mom's 3rd cousins,    aunts brothers wifes  cousin from a broken marrige.  but the papers were lost in a flood in death valley a long time ago.

maybe I will get a discount if i get a BASS membership.   never had one but they send me stuff all the time.  I could always use another tackle bag.
