So, Dan, any thoughts about White Lake yet? Huh, huh, huh?
Oh boy... guess I better pick a date.
is there a canal from White lake to Lake Ovid??
Maybe... eventually... small enough boat... with a few portages...
All the westsiders that came over here for LSC this spring I definetly want to try to make it over to a West side event...My wife starts school in the Fall again..(Last Semester,,, thank Gosh)...So I will have to check out her schedule but I would sure like to be there....
White lake is good for me....
Dan make sure you take a look at the BASS Federation State fish off dates in September..That event may make White lake a little crowded....(Plus a number of members may be participating)

Yep, it's called concrete. ;) Just a little humor there.
Yes. I have a number of things to check before I can pick a date that works for half the people (hopefully).
how about the same as last year, the weekend after labor day 9/11/10
Was it that early last year? I'll have to look now since I've already forgotten.
We did it on 9/20 last year, Dan.
Is White Lake in stone? That lake is getting BEAT to a pulp right now and will continue to get beat to pulp the rest of the summer. What about Portage or Pentwater? White has some good fish but with all the tournaments we have on it a change of pace would be nice.
Ask McCarter what he thinks of White.............
I've never been on it, what's Pentwater like ??????
I think White Lake gets 'beat to a pulp' every summer yet it keeps producing good catches. I don't like the idea of going farther North. Just makes it harder to get people from farther away to make it.
I'll pick the best date I can and then see how many people can make White Lake that day assuming it is an open day on White Lake.

One other lake that is even closer for everyone and keeps producing good catches is Lake Macatawa! Dan I know you really like it there and I don't think anyone would hold it against you for fishing your favorite West Michigan Shoreline Fishery; heck the swimming advisories might even be expired by this fall. I think I'll take the kids swimming there this weekend that way I can relax and not have to worry about them drowning...........................................................
What about having it on Labor Day? There are Memorial Day Events but I don't think I have ever seen a Labor Day tourney.................
What about Hamlin? It's only an hour north of Muskegon and coming from the East side it wouldn't be much difference in time. It's a great lake and Ludington has a lot to offer if anglers brought family.
I would prefer to not see it held on a holiday weekend. I try not to spend those days doing things that my family can't participate in.
Plus, I'm not sure about the lakes on the west side of the State, but most of the lakes that I've seen get pretty busy on holiday weekends.
Labor Day tends to be the "Last Hurrah" for a lot of recreational boaters. You know, that last chance to get out before the boats go into winter storage.

HAMLIN September 11th would be fine by me! It would draw an excellent crowd of westside GLB members - we have our Classic on the 12th up on Hamlin so it would be a perfect opportunity to allow the 25-30 boats fishing our Classic to prefish. It should even add a solid 10 new GLB members! I can already sense lodging discounts in our near future.................
White needs a break and Hamlin is the best 6th man in the league! DK if we can get super discounted rooms on the lake will possibly consider???? Who knows the King run on the PM could have even started then so it could possibly be a sportspersons dream.
Personally, it doesnt matter to me. Pick a date, and Veronica and I will be there. Luddington sounds like fun.
It sure wont hurt my feelings to NOT fish White 3 times this year. I wasnt impressed.
Hamlin sounds good, its only about 45 minutes away from my trailer in Irons so it would give me an excuse to go up there again this year!
I would hate to start a ruckus on changing from White, but I'm with the rest of the crowd and actually vowed I would never fish it again. true story.
My god people White is not that bad, tbf just hit a tougher than normal weekend in the middle of a hot summer.
yeah but hamlin is better. (says the west side guy who won't be around that week) lol.

Tim your just saying that because you have to drive from Benton Harbor! Last time I checked you were eligible as a Wild Card for the ROI Camp & Cruise Lakeshore Elite Series so it just makes sense for you....................................
Too far north (Hamlin) and too weird (Macatawa). I think we should go to White. Just waiting for a few answers so I can pick a date.
You do know Dan that Hamlin is near Ludington which is the home of House of Flavors Ice Cream. Their Hokey Pokey sundae- butter pecan, hot fudge, hot caramel, whipped cream and loaded with salty, crunchy, pecan halves is hard to beat. In fact, it is my favorite ice cream joint.
It's not that my cabin is also near Irons that I mention this lake. It's just a super lake with multi species.
Doesn't Hamlin have a very nice state campground with a launch? Would be pretty cool to get a bunch of campsites next to each other ;D. I can smell burnt marshmallows and stale beer already!!!
Yep, it has a very nice state park. It also has some nice campgrounds on the north end as well.

I thought White was just fine on the that weekend, Heck I think White is good everyday. OK Hamlin is alright too. Sept is going to be hard for me to make this year but Im going to try no matter where it is.

I DEFINITELY need to stay away from Hamlin then!! I'm diabetic as of the past couple years so (fun fun fun)... if I didn't know better I would think you are trying to kill me!?! Just reading about it makes me feel light-headed and faint...
Too many members want to head up in the morning to make such a long drive real fair in my mind to many. Maybe in the future it will make more sense.

Haha well Don you are on another level but for most of the other guys it was a tough weekend.

Nah, I would drive to Hamlin or wherever if the dates work out just surprised me with how many guys never want to fish White again because it was tough. What are you talking about with the wild card?
Hey Tim,
I'll mail your goodies out for winning the Tear Drop Fantasy League. It's not much, but better than a sharp stick in the eye. By the way I'm going to be fishing White on Monday and having never been there, and with your expertise, a PM with some spots to try wouldn't hurt.
I know a lot of you were disgusted by White, but it really is a fun lake. You guys came over on a BAD weekend, unless your name is Don W. I'm heading there tomorrow morning, and I'm looking forward to it. Besides, the DK Opens are for fun, not big money and prizes.
I understand people want to catch a lot of bass too. The fishing should be better next month.
Looks like the west side schedule is even tighter than normal. No real good date so it looks like the slightly lesser than all evils for equipment and timing will be Saturday, September 11, 2010 on White Lake.
So, is that the official announcement? I think I'm the only one looking forward to this.
No. You aren't the only one. There'll be a few more of us there looking forward to catching some bass (and pike and dogfish).
I'll make the official post late tomorrow or Monday after I double confirm a few material details that are already initially confirmed. But you can never be too careful.

I am excited for this as well - it wouldn't matter if it was on Lake Lansing it would still be fun (well that might be stretching it!) White is fun because most everyone will catch fish and have the opportunity to catch 23 lb bags - White was fishing bad a few weeks ago due to the HOT water temps and algae bloom, come Sept. 11 it will be back to its 20+ sack form. Believe or not (I don't know if I do until I see pics) but supposedly someone in a live bait tourney this past weekend out of Muskegon ran up to White and brought in a 8.2 lb giant - fact or fiction who knows but it is possible on that pig factory.
Who's holding live bait tournaments where you even run? Just curious.
I want to know if Luke is bringing up a Legend for demo rides. Well? I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only one looking forward to this.
Me Three! Looking for forward to the DK Open on White.
All ya'll that came over here to fish the TBF and struggled on White...I suggest you sack up and come back here and show that lake what your all about! Don't let some two bit lake get the best of you! We all know, all lakes have bad runs but that's when you gotta step up and figure out how to catch those bass.
So really, is what I'm saying is get your east side behindes over here on Sept 11th!!!!
Cy
I really would come even if it was still on White unfortunately. But we have a College Bass tournament on Erie September 11th.
So many tournaments... still the same few weekends...
Of course, I have work on Sep. 11.
The one day, huh?
Where is this lake? I can't find it on Mapquest because it keeps sending me to the city of White Lake. Someone please post a map link. Thanks!
NW of Muskegon
The launch is in the city of Montague, which is 12 miles north of Muskegon.
It's a flooded river mouth lake on the west coast of Michigan in Muskegon County. Connected to Lake Michigan by a channel. Just north of Muskegon Lake. It's a smaller, less industrially-developed version of Muskegon Lake.

Yeah, what he said. The question is, when is Dan going to officially announce the day? I already put vacation in for the weekend of the 11th, hopefully that's when it is.
It's official now. I just have to write the post this weekend.
Dan, is the fall DK open going to be the 11th for sure. I am considering taking Friday off work. There is only one spot left to do this, so I need to know so someone else doesn't beat me to the punch. Thanks Jeff
Yes. The answer has not changed since I said for sure above. For sure. I'm just not done editing the official post yet.
Ok, Sorry, just didn't want to waste a day.
I would not do that to you!!!! Unless I'm kidnapped by Canadians or some similar weird deal.
I won't be there this time. BBT is having an open that day and unless things drastically change I'll be fishing it to try to qualify for the BBT Classic. I'm sure I'll see everyone on White though.... ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Sorry, White is closed to everyone that isn't fishing the DK Open. It has to be that way. :P
How the heck did I miss the BBT tournament? I looked and I looked. Oh well, hopefully Russ will forgive me.
I wouldn't worry about it Dan.
No. I'm not going to change at this point.

Sept. 11 at White Lake sounds fun... would like to go, however just got my dad out of the hospital today. If he is doing fine by then.. maybe ::)
You need to fish Mary. Let me know if you get him settled in and can get away for a day.
