Title: My first Seminar..
Post by: spinninbug on May 12, 2006, 08:57:37 AM
Our church has started doing outdoor ministries.  To our surprise my husband and I were asked to come to a board meeting about bass fishing.  They asked us if we would put on a seminar about bass fishing.  We, having never done one before were at a loss as to what to do.  Of course they had ideas as to what they would like to have and kind of gave us an outline.  Basics, they wanted us to keep it pretty basic.  They told us we would have an hour.  One hour to talk about bass fishing.  I thought they were crazy you just can't talk for one hour about bass fishing they didn't know what they were asking us to do,  (none of these people on the board fish much) how could we go there and talk only for an hour.

Well I made some calls,  I have to say it was really pretty easy.  I called some of the guys in our teardrop club and they jumped at the chance to do this.  But what surprised me the most was in conversation I was telling our very own Joshomoto about it and he just said count me in.  He drove 4 hours up here to do this. I love this guy!!

So we had the seminar last night.  It was the first one for most of us.  It was a huge success.  We were all pretty nervous,  but we did it,  and we only went over our hour time limit by just a little bit.  It was really fun.

We covered rods, reels, baits, graffs, maps and boater safety.  All that in an hour and then we hung around for a while for anyone that wanted to ask questions and look at our stuff.  It was really cool.

They are talking about doing a seminar on women and fishing so maybe I will be doing another one who knows...

Anyway we had a great time,  of course for me whenever there are kids around and I can teach them something that is the best!!!

Wendy, that's awesome!  Josh should get the achievment award for making that trip...what a guy.  I once preached at church on a Sunday in my full fishing gear and gave a sermon that was a combination of a bass seminar and spiritual lessons.  It was a blast.  Nice to see people willing to volunteer for this kind of stuff.  Sounds like your church is doing some cool stuff.  Keep it up.

They are trying to really kick off these outdoor ministries.  So far the ones we have had have turned out really good.  They have some big plans for future ones too,  we are looking forward to them also.

I do have to say my hats off the the other teardrop members that stepped up and volunteered to come out and help.  For purely selfish reasons I was so happy Josh came up,  so not only did we get to have him help out with the seminar,  they spent the night with us and we got to spend some time with them.  Even got some worms poured!!  I know we won't get to see much of him this summer with us not fishing the South Central and him fishing the stren series so we were glad he came up.

So over all we had a blast with the seminar and the quality time afterwards.

That sounded like a great time.  I did something similar a month ago at my church and next weekend is our second annual fishing tournament.  I am blessed to have some great fishing buddies that volunteer their time by coming out with there rigs for the day.  It allows me to invite 18-20 church members out for a fun day on the water.  I set it up as an "All species" measure tournament pairing up each boater with two members.  Last year was a huge success and we cannot wait for next Saturday.

It is a continued encouragement to see the good hearted anglers around our state. This is evident hearing about Josh driving four hours to help out in your seminar.

That's the kind of guy Josh is.  Doesn't suprise me a bit.

It's fun doing seminars like that.  I teach for a living, but doing seminars is even better.  The audience is there because they want to be.

SUPER FUN!!!!

That's all I have to say about that, I used to do that stuff for a living, I just didn't get to talk about fishing.

Up there... I got to talk about fishing, and the kids "really" liked the senko's I handed out,
I had a blast, thanks again Wendy!

Hopefully I have recruited a couple more people to the board. I made sure that I told everyone that this board is a tremendous source for fishing info.

Thanks Wendy
