Headed out there Sunday and never been there. Can any one clue me in on what I should be doing. I'll only be there for a few hours and want to make the best of it. Any info would be great.
Thanks
Shayne
Never been there, but I've always heard it is a great jig and pig lakes for big largemouths. Big Texas-rigged worms too. Look for a weed line near the breaks/points. I would expect bass on the inside this time of year too. I don't know how or where they spawn - I just know if you get one, it will probably be a good one.
I said it before and I'll say it again... There is only one fish that lives in that pond. I don't yet know his name, but I catch him every year. He doesn't seem to grow either. Grrr. I feel pretty good about myself after fishing that lake though because it takes a certain amount of skill to catch the only fish in the lake. :-\'
I thought stoney creek was a small stream that enters the Grand near portland. I heard there are exceptionally big smallies in that stream in this time of year.
Not familiar with a Stoney Creek near Portland. I think I remember seeing it on a map, but not ever hearing any rumors.
This Stoney Creek is on the opposite side of the LP - a small reservoir with a few big bass - over in NW Macomb County (Mt Vernon Michigan North of Rochester Hills). One of the MetroParks.
I should restate and clarify
i did not hear there are big bass in stoney creek ( grand river tributary), I read it in a Jim Bedford book called fly fishing Michigan.
Guess I'm gonna have to try it for myself
I have Jim's Grand River book - pretty good information. If Jim Bedford says Stoney Creek is good, it is. He's not a story teller. Real nice guy and a really good river angler.
I may forget someone and hurt feelings, but we have three award-winning outdoor writer/photographers in Lansing (or close enough for Tom) - Jim Bedford, Tom Huggler and Joel St. Germain.
