Title: Westside Fishing Report
Post by: Cy on May 04, 2006, 12:21:51 PM
I am have two reports to post:

1.  Saturday April 29th, Brooks Lake in Newaygo County.  I fished from about 6:00 PM until dark.  It was cloudy and about 60 degree air temp.  Water is off color and 63 degree surface temp.  I caught 8 fish most of them 12" to 13".  4 on a red craw Wart in 4' to 6' of water, 2 on a 3/8 oz pumpkin jig with a craw trailer in 3' or less and 2 on a chartreuse spinner bait in 3' or less.  I caught 1 fish that was about 2 lbs on the crank.  Brooks isn't known for it's big fish anyway

2.  Tuesday May 4th, Green Lake in Allegan County.  A buddy and I fished from about 6:00 PM until dark.  I it was cloudy and rainy about 60 degree air temp.  Water is medium clear and 59 degree surface temp.  I caught 7 total, 4 small bass on a chartreuse spinner bait on the drop off, about 4' to 5' of water.   We decided to troll for Northerns and caught 3 more each on Shad Raps and Fat Raps mostly in 4' to 6' of water all smaller fish.

I don't live to far from Green Lake.  I have not been there this year but I have never caught a keeper in 10 trips to that lake.  Its great for the kids because 30 bass days are common, but they are all 12".

The biggest bass I've ever caught came out of Brooks Lake.? I didn't have a scale on me but it measured 23 1/2 inches.? As far as I know it should still be swimming there.

I have a summer place on Brooks Lake and I have fished it alot, simply because it is easy.  Over the years I have caught several fish in the 2 lbs to 2.5 lbs class and one just over 4 lbs last fall.  It is a good lake there are lots fish and lots of wood cover.  The real up side to Brooks is that it is close to Croton and Hardy ponds!  I would rather fish up there but for short trips Brooks works fine.  If anyone gets up that way and wants to go fishing anywhere in area let me know.  I don't go anywhere without my boat.
