I have an 87 ranger, 18', with a black max 150. i have put almost 2000 into trying to get it fixed yet i was told it needs a new powerhead. i need to either sell it with a bad motor, or buy a good motor. the boat has already swallowed most of my cash. anybody know of a decent sized cheap working motor for this, or is anyone interested in buying a boat with a bad motor. i need to get at least 4000 for it, and im not sure how likely that is. or any other random ideas worth trying. it just sits in my driveway and wont seem to get stolen, or catch fire, or get hit by a tornado.
Thanks,
Frank
i had a very similar problem last year. i sat on a blown motor for 5 years. finally, i decided to see what i could do. wouldnt you know it, the fine people of Wonderland Marine West worked me out a deal so ridiculously good, that i couldnt turn it down. you might talk to them and see what they could do for you. i know buying a newer boat doesnt seem like the smartest thing to do right now, but when you sit down and look at what it costs you to maintain an older boat in need of work, swapping starts to make sense. talk to my boy Ralph Blasey over there 734-417-5550
McCarter himself :-\'
Ralph found my boat for me this year. He's a straight up guy and he will take care of you.
Frank,
I rebuilt my power head 2 years ago on my 99 Skeeter SX186. If you purchased all of the parts not counting labor. You would have about 2 grand more in the motor plus or minus a few hundred bucks. With the boat being a older ship and not really long...ie 20 or 21ft it's a tough call. What kinda shape is she in... ? Colors and stuff maybe just maybe it could be a good winter project... but your best bet would be like McCarter and Rick said is to give Ralph a call. good luck
Don
Frank, you are in a tough spot. I don't know what upgrades are on your boat, but I would guess it would bring aboud 4 or 5 k with a good working motor. With no motor, it can be tough to sell it, but you might think about "parting" the motor out.
What is wrong with the motor? Lost compression? Crank damage?
Seth
Almost done having my motor rebuilt, I think. Honest cost was a heck of a deal, around $4500. Should've been closer to $7000, think my insurance quote was right at $6800. Wanna buy a boat with a rebuilt engine??

Already talked to ralph. I might buy a boat. From him. But he doesn't want mine
