Title: Bring the boat to TC for the weekend?
Post by: Redbone on June 27, 2010, 02:27:17 PM
I am staying at a hotel in the East bay of Traverse city over the 4th.  I was wondering if I should bring my boat with me.  Being I only have a 17' boat I would prolly only stay in the bay.  We are also bringing the jetski's so I dont need it for entertainment.  Just fishing and getting away.

2 questions.
Is there enough bass in the bay to make it worth while for myself?
My 4 year old niece will be with us and I'm wondering if I would be able to take her out and go "worm" fishing for gills or perch? If not it will prolly just stay in the garage.

Any info is great!

If I am near fishable water, my boat and my fishing gear are with me. There is nothing I hate worse than getting up in the morning, seeing and hearing the bass feeding, and I have nothing to throw at them.

The bay can get Rough..Even in my 20 footer but on the right days you should be fine in a 17 foot boat...The bass fishing should be awesome in the East bay if you can get out...

If not there are more great little lakes around Traverse city than you could hit in a month up in that area...
Long Lake, Green Lake, Duck lake, Charlevoix, Torch etc etc etc...

If I am anywhere near Traverse City my boat is going with me....Even if the fishing isn't good the Sights from the water are awesome...

Dude, take the boat!

We're going up there for a family gathering the 3rd wknd of July and the rig is going before anything else!  I'm going up early even to fish the bay.  If all goes well, sight fishing for smallies in 20fow.... ;D

If you can't get on the bay, the suggested lakes are very good fishing.  Been on them all several times and always caught good fish.

I'm not sure you could get me up there without a boat.  My parents have a place 25 miles from TC and I've NEVER gone up there without a boat!!

You got it backwards!  Leave the jet skis at home and take the boat!!  If the bay is bumpy, there are plenty of great inland waters.  I don't "get" the jet ski thing - taking the "real" boat sounds a whole lot more fun - esp if you have a 4 year old.

Thats the info I was looking for.  Thanks!  Going to bring the boat for sure.  The in-laws are bringing the ski's so we will have it all covered. Have a good 4th!

Ended up bringing the boat.  I didnt fish as much as I wanted but I'm still glad I brought it.  Caught a nice 15'' smallie in about the first 20min of fishing. Caught something everytime I went out! :D
I would love to spend a full day fishing on that bay.  It is a good fishery.
