Was at Maceday from 7am to 1pm, today...Excellent fishing...
Worked on a 5 fish limit, got it, culled twice
Solid 13ish lb sack
not sure what weights carry on this lake
ive seen 19lb sack before
More than 13lbs!!!!!
Thirteen pounds is good on an inland lake anytime during the summer. If Maceday consistently kicks out more than that during the summer I guess I should figure out where the boat ramp is and get over there!!
What kind of presentations where you using?
Maceday is one of those lakes which offers the opportunity to catch a 6 to 8lb bass. The DNR stocks it with Lake Trout, Rainbows and Browns. So there is a ton of forage. I've see some of the biggest bass in Michigan in that lake. My personal best is arounf 5lbs. See Pic
What size foot is that? How's the boat ramp? Keep in mind DD, that I'm talking real boat ramp verses the gravelly mudhole in the weeds you called a boat ramp at Hopkins Lake?!? ;D
Oh, and what is the boat traffic over there like? Blind madmen bent on destruction... or just distracted slight absent-minded kooks??
Maybe I could finally get some use out of one of my rainbow trout swimbaits??

That's a size 10-1/2 foot and the boat ramp is an improved concrete ramp able to handle the largest boat. On the weekend you want to be out of there by about 10:30am or the water flees will make life miserable ;D. Check out this google earth pic
And the DNR Map

I wish they made a good water flee spray. Maybe a spray cannon??

More than 13lbs!!!!!
Guess I need to just stay home then, no sense in going......
ah well, it was fun anyway, pics of the best 4 fish:
Nice fish. There are some big ones in Maceday, godd smallies too.
Maceday is one of those lakes where you may not get alot of bites, but they will generally be nice ones. I have seen 3-4 hour tournaments that take 19 lbs to win and 17 lbs to cash a check. My personal best in a 3 hour tournament has been 12 lbs (with 3 fish). My personal best in 4-5 hours of fun fishing has been 21+ lbs for 5 fish (of course it never happens in a tournament :-\').
The best time to go is in the morning as there will be alot of bigger fish cruising the shallows and drop offs. I believe once the sun gets up and the boat traffic picks up, they go out over the deep water and suspend (the lake is quite deep and fairly clear).
As for the ramp it is off Williams Lake Road a few miles north of the Pontiac Lake DNR ramp. There are not many parking spots and the boat traffic can get pretty heavy by about noon.
The picture is of my son holding my first ever drop shot bass caught on Maceday.
Do you all fish mostly Maceday, Lotus, or both equally?
I like Lotus in the morning and Maceday when the sun gets up and hot. Those big ones get up under the docks. Look out.
I didn't know that lake could be "on" let alone if there were any fish in those lakes. I have never done well there and avoid them like the plague. I go to LSC and Erie for a reason. That is because there are fish in Erie and LSC.
BD ;D
To each his own... one of the many nice things about fishing.
