I have a 40hs merc mariner. Its not blowing out any water. I changed the impeller and blew out the line from the top. It still doesn't work. I need it for opening day. Is there anyone that can help me fix it. The shops are all booked up for the weekend. I'm in waterford
Thank you
Frank
I had that probem once. It turned out to be the grommet that was plugged where the hose exits. Although it sounds like you checked that. :-\'
Was it peeing OK before you swapped the impeller? Since you changed the impeller, we can assume you're actually pumping water. That leaves two options; disconnect, or plugged.
Is it possible you didn't get the inlet pipe going up the midsection of the motor hooked up when you bolted back the lower unit? Been known to happen on occasion.
Or, you have an obstruction at the tell tale. I've had a couple of pebbles get stuck in the grommet leading out of the lower skirt over the years. Chased 'em out with a little bit of wire.
Hope you're running strong by Saturday...
it was not peeing first. im taking it all apart again in the morning. i will run a wire down it
DO NOT turn your water on full blast when using muffs on the motor, water pump is designed to pull water up from the inlet, if you turn the water on HIGH, the pressure will blow out the muffs and not let enough water get sucked up by your wp, also make sure your pickup tube is in, use grease around the wp housing when installing the impeller also, if ya can't get it bring it to the boat dealer I work at Anglers Marine and we can get it for ya ;D
I had a 25hp mariner that I did not put back together correctly. I was just checking the impeller and I dropped the lower unit down that inch or two. When I put it back together I thought if the dowels line up the top and bottom, I should be good to go. It wasnt. My water line was not connected. I took it out on the lake and no water. I would bet you have the same problem. Even though you have dowels to line up the bottom. Make sure your copper hoses are together when putting it back together.
Good Luck!
Not sure if I should start a new thread or just add to this one. My 2005 60 hp 4 stroke just stopped blowing out water for the first time last weekend. Naturally, I shut if off right away. I took it home, flushed it out with a garden hose, and then it started blowing water out like normal. I'm hoping some junk just got sucked in and I flushed it out. Should I be worried at all? Never had a single issue with this motor until this happened. I zipped my boat around the lake yesterday and it ran just fine.
I work with a guy who was just telling me about his 9.9hp four stroke motor. He is on Muskegan and keeps sucking up the algie in his water inlets. The motors alarm keeps going off because lack of water. He has been having to flush it out every time he uses it. Although, he doesnt get going fast enough to plane out, but its still a pain.
thanks guys. turns out you can buy a new impeller but still have a bad impeller housing. now its all new and working good thanks
