Early season scouting report: The new Xtreme tube in Mayfly color is working well. Some anglers are reporting a good jerk bait bite, and others claiming rattle baits. Water is clearing from last weekend's muddy water due to East winds previous.
Thanks for the update !!!! I'm heading that way either tomorrow afternoon or Monday morning for a few days. :) You get much rain up that way last night??? Jeff
I plan on coming as a boater.
Bob Galloway
non-boater
Mike McGrane boater
I'm trying to find an oil leak under my cowling. I may not make it if I can't fix it. I could come as a nonboater, but I'd be a depressed nonboater. Not sure if I would come. Hopefully it's a simple fix.
Weird. Can't find a single leak. I traced every oil line and found no leaks. I did change one small line since I had to remove it to check out the auxiliary oil tank. Ran it for 5 minutes to let the aux tank refill and never saw a leak. Oil level stayed constant in the aux tank. Strange huh? I guess I'll be there Saturday and just see what happens. I will have a friend with me, so I'm set with a nonboater.
It will be cold and maybe a little rain. And it'll be W I N D Y. However, the winds will be out of the West according to Wunderground. So if we stick to the Mile Roads, we should be fine. Chance of rain about 50/50. I don't see a need just yet to switch to our backup lake. They aren't calling for Thunderstorms, so we'll be just as cold and wet at Lobdell if we were to switch.
Let's see what the weather says on Friday. Hopefully this front will make it's way through earlier than expected.
BTW- My partner for Saturday is Everett, for whoever is doing the pairing.
I thought that Jack was supposed to do the pairings. Then I talked to him and that was only for the first event. In fact Jack has schedule conflicts with several of the dates that we have. My suggestion is that we get one person, and stick with him for the season.
I've done it this time just to get us rolling. I've tried to make it so that nobody is fishing with anybody that they fished with last time, since the whole idea is to meet and fish with different people. If and or when we get into regular meeting dates, we can actually do a sign up and a drawing of names at those meetings.
We are supposed to arrive at the Crocker Rd. & Jefferson DNR launch at 6:00 AM Saturday.
Suggestion: If anyone has a VHF radio, would you please bring it? We could then communicate scouting reports. Barring that, we could use cell phones.
Tom O.- Everett
Len B. - Rick Fike
Eric Kennedy - Jack Cahn
Bob Galloway - Mojo
Mike McGrane - Bass Assassin
According to several sources, the bite has been in about 8 FOW, and the reports I'm getting are saying mostly tubes and jerk baits, with some claiming rattle type baits as well.
NOAA weather forcast for Saturday:
"Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. Breezy, with a west northwest wind between 23 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%."
See you Saturday.
Just a heads up if you decide to go to Lobdell Sat. Winds out of the north @ 12 to 20mph, high of 48deg. and 50% chance of rain. It's all yours ;D Oh, and possible flakes early on!
Saturday: SW wind 14 to 22 kt becoming NW in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 kt. Scattered showers. Waves 2 to 3 ft.
Looks a little windier and wavier farther offshore so far.
Thanks for the work Rick!
BTW...we riding over together?
GALE WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM SATURDAY UNTIL MIDNIGHT SUNDAY...
SATURDAY...WEST WINDS 20 TO 25 KNOTS WITH GUSTS TO 30 KNOTS. GUSTS
TO 35 KNOT GALES POSSIBLE. CLOUDY. A CHANCE OF LIGHT SHOWERS. WAVES
2 TO 3 FEET. SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY MAY BE REQUIRED.
I"m thinking that we should either cancel, or head to our alternative site.
I know with my back, it doesn't make sense to go out there and pound around for fish that are bedded, when we can't even see the beds. Fishing for large mouth in the cannals doesn't thrill me either. I've talked with Len, and told him I'm not going to Clair. I'll fish Lobdell it that's what we want to do.
Since we don't have an event director, how shall we make the call?
I'm not a wuss. Really! But LSC just looks like too much. Do we even want to fish Lobdell? I'd be fine rescheduling ...I just can't do the 15th. If we all still want to fish Lobdell, I'm ok with that. Just need some directions...never been there before. Just my .02 worth. Thanks
Hi Guys,
I hate to bale out on tomorrows LSC but besides being a mudhole after todays constant East wind, its calling for steady 25 knots tomorrow with possible gales. No thanks. See you guys at the next event.
Len B.
I understand Mike M and Jack are also choosing wiser of the weather ..... I'll go out Bob G if you still want to, so long as Im not stuck fishing on 9 mile again ;D.
I wonder how Fairbanks and Anchor bay are for dirtied up water ? Is it too much ask Bob, if we DO go out, can we go early in the morning and get off the water early like 6 - 10 ? Let the club know your thoughts, and PM me later.
Bassassasin - If you want to go out with Bob G I'll let you get out there with him and I'll stay back, noone should be out there alone tomorrow.
As much as I want to fish tomorrrow...I'm gonna call off. Lets just say I'd rather stay home and grade papers than fight the wind and cold. I'll happily substitute another day later on. I'd rather air on the side of caution and safety. Especially as I duck and jump at the lightning this evening...as i watch the severe thunderstorm (with hail) roll through. Catch ya on the flip side.
Go for it Mojo. If theres any other boaters that wanna go, tomorrow or sunday PM me. I would love fish somewhere this weekend. If not, I'm gonna stay home and paint some cranks for the DK open.
Okay guys, as much as I was looking forward to get out this weekend,I'm going to bailout.I think we should reschedule for a more safe day.The rain does not bother me,but gale force winds makes me nervous
Sorry Bob Galloway
