If anyone was on crockery lake (8miles west of sparta) sunday afternoon and saw or knows the guy in the 10'-12' silver aluminum boat with a 10hp old motor on it fishing by himself - please PM me.
Guy stole about 2k worth of tackle from another boat on the lake after a tackle bag blew out of the boat. He went and picked it up and then disappeared - think he put on a trailer and hauled off because we couldn't find him on the lake at all 15 minutes later. There was only 1 other boat on the lake and it was OBVIOUS where the tackle bag came from and he blatantly took it.
There is a reward.
That sucks!
However morally and ethically wrong it seems to us to do, he found it. It's his if he wants it.
I certainly do not condone it, and think maybe he be taken behind the woodshed, but....
its not salvage until it hits the bottom of the lake! plus he was right next to us so i know he saw it fall off the boat - he darn well knew who it belonged to. Not to mention there were items contained within the bag that would identify its owner.
Technically it sounds like flotsam and not jetsam. Flotsam is lost overboard and jetsam is purposely cast overboard.
From wikipedia:
"Generally speaking, jetsam is the property of the finder, while flotsam remains the property of its original owner."
I sure hope you get it back. Must have been very windy!
and in any case the band sucked.
I just read more of the story on Facebook. I am now thinking it may have been bailapanga. His parents live kinda that way, and you said fat guy in a tin boat.
I am kinda hoping the extra weight of the bag sunk this guys tin boat. Then it will be salvage.
A bunch of crap no matter how you look at it. Did he try filing a police report?
I told him he should... i'm not up to speed on the laws, but i would think if the value is actually established at 2k$ - thats a fairly serious offense.
eric - like this:

so yeah - kinda like bailpanga, but i would have known it washim.
That is awesome. I won't even get into the resemblance of that guy to voodoo.
A police report is definitely in order. Maybe insurance can help with something, but probably not without a police report. Make sure to be checking ebay, craigslist, auctions, yard sales, etc also for his stuff to be popping up.
Is there any chance it sank and no one has it?
i witnessed said individual retrieve it from the water and put it in his boat.
Now that really sucks. Everyone knows the difference between right and wrong. Maybe he'll have some guilt and change his tune?
I work in Ravenna with alot of people from the area of Crockery. The guys I work with seem to know everyone within a fifty mile radius of town. I will ask around to see if any of them have heard of any of this. My buddy Joel is from there, and seems to know everyone. There is a good chance of him finding out who it was. I will keep my ears open man. That is a real bummer. Sorry to hear that.
Already talked to a few people in Sparta to keep their eyes and ears open for any clues on this.
I'm going to try to hit Sparta Bait and Tackle in the AM before work and put a bug in their ear about it too.
he said he had a few RAM custom cranks - something that would stand out if the guy was trying to get rid of them.
I spread the word today at work. Told everybody that I have ever heard say the word fish.
you guys rock! thanks
I told the guys at Sparta Bait and Tackle that if they heard anything to give me a call at my store and the individual could simply drop it off any time, no questions asked, no issue.
I haven't heard anything. I was hoping to hear someone had some gear for sale before I started asking around. I'll ask a few people I know from the area tomarrow. I hate thieves!
