Title: Open Water!
Post by: TCook on March 14, 2010, 11:47:33 PM
Finally we found some open water, a small lake in south bend just opened up so me and Jason Fowler decided to do some fishing for the first time this year atleast in this area. We fished about 6 hours and it took us about half that to figure out where they were holding at and how to get a bite. Once we dialed in we ended up with 10 keepers all were between 3 and 4 3/4lbs, best 5 went 19. We caught all our fish slowly swimming a 1/4oz Nemesis upskirt jig with bulky trailers. Spring is officially Here!!!!

And once again I was working.  This whole work thing is over-rated I'm beginning to think.  Might have to call you up here soon Jason and come visit you for a bit!!  What's the report on Maxi so far??

My bet is I'll be on Indian Lake before that though!  Brandon thinks end of the week for open water.  Gotta love private lakes.

OK, don't go rubbing it in that you will be on Indian Lake by the end of the week.  That is by far the best lake I've ever fished.  I gotta start hanging around the lake to see if someone will let me on it again!

I got news today that Muskegon Lake is open.

Muskegon was open from the mouth of the river to 2nd Street last week.  Fisherman's was frozen, so we had to launch in the river off the Causeway.  I'm sure most of the lake is open by now.

Mill Pond in Dowagiac is open. Impoundments in SW Michigan are open, the running water aids in cutting the ice quickly. I caught 5 out on our lake and my grandpa caught 2. It was really productive for our lake. I am thinking about heading to the secret lake soon if you can launch a boat there.

As I drove by Whitmore Lake on the way home it was looking pretty good.  There's still some ice, but not much in terms of thickness.

A few days of 50 degrees and I think it will be gone.

Went by Chemung yesterday, there was some open water and the rest was breaking up pretty good. It should be open by this weekend, I would think.

From the temp outside and the thin ice I am assuming Paw Paw will be open this weekend as well, or atleast very close to it!!

My buddy, Durand Dan, just called to rub it in that he was sitting on Lobdel in his boat warming up the motor. MAN I wish I was there. He said lots of ice still but the channel to Bennett looked open.
