Title: kent lake, ice?
Post by: nitroderrek on March 13, 2010, 05:30:43 AM
if anyone drives by kent lake everyday, or knows the ice conditions, i would like to get out there in my boat as soon as the ice is gone...  maybe another week or two i am guessing.  thanks, nitroderrek

Not a bad idea.  Trouble with taking my boat there is that they've probably not started raising the water level yet.

Without a 4 x 4 I have to back into the lack too far.

Sure would be cool though to cruise around and see where the stumps and things are with the water level down.

I plan on going out there Monday at lunch time to look around.  this rain will help a lot.

I bet you would find a lot of shiny rocks out there, expertly polished by stainless propellers.
I wonder how far you could walk around in the back bays with waders? I'd sure like to be around there now with my little boat to get out and scout stuff.

The lake is open from Buno bridge to the water slide.  The east launch still has ice.  The back bays have ice but it should go fast.  The West launch is open to the Opsrey nest.  You could launch there.  The sun was even out for a bit and you could really see the sand bars.  The water is as low as I have ever seen.  I would bet all the ice will be gone by the weekend with the warm weather coming.

Won't be long now...

With the water down, can you launch there? I have trouble when the water is up.

If your launching on the east side you have to use the dock to the far right(North) as your looking at the launch. It's the only one with good depth close to shore.

drove around today and shot some photos.  going to need some wind to move the ice.  not much had changed.   the current under the buno bridge was moving pretty fast.   took this photo.  guess you can call it the cost of fishing.  55.00 to enter and launch a boat.  got to love them metro parks.

They can have it. I won't be donating that much there.

Yeah, it's getting kind of ridiculous how much metro parks are charging these days.  I don't think I launched at a single one last year except once at Kent.  I avoid metro parks because I just can't afford it with all the other permits I need to buy.  Oh yeah...that reminds me I need to get my license for walleye soon, and my Canadian, and Walpole, and the DNR sticker, and the State Park sticker, and... and... and... :-\'

I was thinking today if they added words to the bottom of the sign

" Catching a 5 pounder, Priceless "  that might take the sting out a little.

They are just charging more for Kent to pay for all the weed killer they poison the lake with.  >:(

They do lay it on thick there for a nature area..  They will make good money.   last time I counted there are over 40 tournaments scheduled there this summer.  NBAA Div 40 is there 3 times plus OCBM so I will be forking over the $$.  The truck sticker is no problem since we head out there a couple times a week for a lunch cruise,  and to watch McCarter fish.  I can usually find him out there somewhere.

It does suck that it is now $30 for the boat sticker, especially since we already are paying to fund the HCMA on our property taxes.

In reality though how many of us will drop $30 for a one time dinner with our significant other. The $30 sticker is the gift that keeps on giving all year long.  If you are really that worried about it just drive in and wait for the ranger to issue you a ticket. Last season was the first year I purchased a sticker for my boat only because I did finally get one half way through the season.

You can get 6 citations before you get the yearly paid for so if you don't plan on launching at a metropark more than 6 times, take your chances.

Or you can just grow old, and get the senior citizen discount.

I live next to a Metro park.  They've got more money to waste than any body I know.  I have seen them fence in their property, and then a couple of years later, tear out that fence and put up a chain link fence.

I wouldn't mind paying their fee, but at least use some of the monies to dredge out the ramp at the Kent Lake launches.

I drove by Kent this afternoon.  There is still lots and lots of ice.  No point in launching the boat as far as I can see.   And, the big rock that sits in the water next to the I 96 bridge is still way out of the water.    I can't launch there until that rock starts to go under water when they raise the levels.
