Title: Gear Ratios
Post by: Jeremy on March 11, 2010, 01:59:38 PM
Hi All,

Been lurking for a few months, thought it time I register and post something...

Anyhow, I'm adding baitcasting reels to my existing spinning lineup and I'm wondering how many of you use both 6.x:1 and 7:1 gear ratios? I was going to get two 6.4:1 Shimanos but then my old friends WFN, Bass Pros, Lindner's Angling Edge and Fishing University saw it fit to put even more ideas in my head and I've been considering one of each.

Thanks,
Jeremy

if you dont have a 7.1:1 reel yet, get one.  They are great for pitching, topwater, rattle traps, spinnerbaits.

I say get one of each

Yeah, I agree.  Most of mine are 6.2:1.  However, the 7:1 I got last year really served a purpose.  The reel that I am having a hard time finding for a decent price is a good 5:1.  Everything in that speed that is decent is at least $120.  Seems like every reel being sold these days is a 7:1.
