Title: Battery Recycling
Post by: Fishmael on March 11, 2010, 08:20:46 AM
Where do you guys on the west side take your batteries that are being replaced?  I am changing out the 3 in my boat and also have another that needs to go as well.

Anywhere that you buy ur new batteries will charge u a battery core charge unless you trade in your old batteries at the time of perchase. So i guess to answer your question, where ever you buy your new batteries will take your old ones!

Take them with you when you get the new ones.  You will be charged an extra "core charge" if you do not have a battery to "trade in" when you get your new ones.

Or call up a metal recycle scrap yard. You might get more money for them than the core charge, but it's more work to do that. Easier just to trade them in.

If you just want to get rid of them you can drop them off at any West Marine.  You won't receive anything except our undying grattitude for NOT just dumping them along the road some where.

As stated... ALL battery retailers are REQUIRED to charge you a "core fee" on every battery sold.  So bring them with you when you get new ones.

what everyone else said. basically anyone who sells batteries will take the old ones too. meijer, autozone, etc. bring 'em with i think the core fee is 8 or 10 bucks now. You'll save yourself 30$. Most places will refund the core fee too if you bring in the old ones with a receipt for the new ones.

A1 electric (1813 Turner Avenue Northwest) in GR used to pays 5$ for em no purchase necessary. at least they used to anyway.

If you dont turn them in where you bought them take them to a scrap yard, they were $7.50 a piece last time I took some in.

Thanks for the information.  That is good to know.  Do you know if anyone has battery specials at the GR show?  If not, I'll probably get them this weekend.

The guys from Deka Batteries are usually there though they don't sell there. Just give out info.

I don't recall if I have seen batteries there before? We can ask the experts. See if they know. Over on the Showspan board.
