I need to spool up my rods soon. I need your guys advise. I want to buy flourocarbon for most of my rods, but I don't want to spend too much. :o Any thoughts on who makes a good line at a reasonable price ???
I have been using Bass Pro's brand for years. I have tried many other brands, but have not liked it near as much. Just seems to be stronger, more abrasion resistant and casts with my baitcasters so much better. I always catch it on sale and seems to be cheaper in price than most.
Seaguar is my fav. I use it on all my spinner gear.
Seaguar invizx and abrazx, best line for your money.
Bass pro is probably the best for the price but I believe that seaguar is the best all around line. As I have stated before on another thread the seaguar has the best diameter size to poundage percentage.
Bass Pro has my vote. I am sure there are other quality lines out there as well. Best advise I received was to try different brands and see what works best for you. Once you decide, stick with it to build familiarity with the lines performance. Changing brands frequently will likely lead to trouble at the worst time.
Also line conditioner never seems to hurt.
My only suggestion: "Don't use Vanish"

I couldn't have said it better myself. BPS Flouro has my vote, as I have been using it for about 4 years now.
I have to agree with DD. I tried Vanish last year, horrible stuff. Going to use P-Line Halo this year. At least to start.
I have not used vanish for a couple of years. It sure did seem to "shatter" on a regular basis for me. I to have used BPS for some time now, with positive results. I did try some of the trilene 100% last year and was pleased. Anyone else use this stuff?

Another one to add to the do not use list...Vicious. Terrible. Both flouro and braid. Lost one of those 13 pounders on Newton cause of this line ;)
I'm another vote for BPS flouro. I use is on spinning and bait casters.
I tried Vicious last year too, terrible. I recently read that they said there were design problems and they corrected it but once was enough for me. The BPS line is great for the price, InvisiX costs a little more but I like it a little better. I just tried some Sunline FC Sniper at the end of last year and liked it best, but not cheap. Forum sponsor Lee's Global Tackle (http://www.leesglobaltackle.com/Fluorocarbon-Fishing-Line-s/67.htm) has Seagar for $16.50 and had Sniper on clearance but it looks like they sold out of that.
i've found abrazx for 57$ and free shipping per 1000yds....... ;D

I agree on that, Vanish is horrible. Started using P-line and it isnt too bad, still not what I'm looking for.
Im going against the grain on the BPS floro my bros. ITs just too stiff for spinning gear, even with a complete pullout after spooling (walk the line down the block with no lure tied on) and a ton of silicone applied as I reel it up, the 8 and 10 lb seems to twist to easily on my Stradic 2500s. IT seems like the Berkley is so much limper, and for my tubes and dropshot, I havent broke off one fish (and I have a medium heavy hookset on medium rods) with the Berkley product.
Stay away from the Vicious.
Another question for anyone who knows: Seagaur carbon pro flouro. Any good ?
And
Is there a shelf life to Flourocarbon line ?
My vote is Seaguar Invizx

I couldn't disagree more I've been using it exclusively for the last 3 years and have had zero issue and would reccommend it to anyone.
I also have to vote against BPS floro. I tried it on my casting and spinning reels and did not like it at all. Way too stiff.
I tried Vanish also. That was a huge waste of time. Worst I've ever used.
I've used P-Line Halo since it has been out and like it alot. No problems at all.

P-Line Halo (http://www.p-line.com/product_detail.php?id=601)
Line is the most important link between you and the next fish of a lifetime...
I forgot about Halo, I used it and really liked it. I switched brands last year because they bumped up the price to $22 per spool. :( No complaints about it though and I think I used 6, 10, and 12#, the heavier line really casts well.
I have been thinking about trying the Seaguar stuff. What is the diff between Invisix and Abrasix?
Also, how is the P-line Halo different that the P-line 100% floro?

This will show you the differences between the seaguar line.
Halo is a "co-fluoride". It's a 100% Fluorocarbon line, but they exturde it using 2 different kinds of fluorocarbon crystals: a "hard" one that provides great abrasion resistance and "softer" one that makes the line more manageable. The result is a 100% fluorocarbon line that casts great yet still maintains the beneficial characteristics of fluorocarbon line. They added the mist green tint to it to make it even less visible. It's a little more expensive than the standard fluoro, but it's a great line.
I've used the regular P-Line 100% Fluorocarbon since it came out and also use some of the Halo, and had great success with both. I've been using the P-Line copolymers since the mid-90's, so when they came out with 100% Fluoro 8-10 years ago I tried it and never looked back. There are some good lines out there I'm sure, but P-Line is all I've ever used in fluoro.
I also tryed the P-line co-poly's years ago and I hated it, switched to Silver Thread and have used it for years, so when flouro's became all the rage, I didn't even consider P-LINE.
Since you guys are all raving about Halo, I might have to try it. Even if agreeing w/ Willie is against my better judgement...LOL just kidding bro.

Has anyone tried the Spiderwire 100% Fluorocarbon? I purchased some for this year and am wondering how it rates to Seagar.

Aint spending $22 bucks on 200 yds .... what else besides BPS is good economical flouro ?

Seeing that it doesn't absorb moisture, and uv light is supposed to pass through it without distortion, I would think that the only thing that would affect the shelf life of Fluorocarbon would be extended periods of high heat.

Yes carbon pro is awesome. It is the most abrasion resistant flouro i have ever used. I snag the wooden pilings and docks in the channels all the time and we have to turn around the boat to go get it off even at the end of the season when the line was worn out. It is also pretty sensitive and easy to cast. Ive used it this last season and was pretty impressed with it.
Good - I found a store up in Gladwin last hunting season cleaing these out at $6.99 / 200 yds, so I got 600 yds of 8 and 600 of 10, but I thought maybe it was cause it was old line etc ..........

Mojo, where at in Gladwin? That is my old stomping ground.
P-Line (100%, not flouroclear)has my vote...
I've been using the P-Line Flouro-clear for a couple seasons and I really like it.
I don't remember the guys name but he doesn't have any teeth. ;D
My personal favorite is Sunline, after that I like Seaguar,Silver Thread and the XPS.I definitely stay clear of anything by Vicious or Gamma, nothing but line twists and break-offs with those two.
What about spooling up? I have been told that the tighter the spool the better. I recently purchased a 3,000 yd spool and have no device to hold this spool tight while I real it in. Any ideas?
I just use my hand to tighten up the line before it goes onto the spool.
I've had a much different experience with vicious. I've used the fluoro for two seasons now, and I'm pretty OK with it. For pure handling ease P-line halo is excellent. BP excell is a pretty good line too. Sugoi handles like a dream; need a loan to spool up. Seguar is very tough, but stiff. Vanish? Yup, right after I got home first trip.
I've used vicious 15#, 12#, 10#, and 6#. All have been satisfactory in performance. Some fluoros are a little more abrasion resistant, and some a little more limp for handling, but vicious has been pretty good for me. Especially considering the price. My son & I have landed more than a few 5+ smallies on the 6#.
There's a lot of possible variables in fluoro performance. Kinks in the line will create a weak spot. Could happen during a backlash, or not wetting a knot enough as it's snugged.
As far as particular lines being "strong", how many lb test do they really break at? Some lines are famous for 10# that actually tests nearly 14#...makes it hard to compare lines when they don't actually rate near each other.
I just found this article on another site about fluorocarbon line: http://www.bigindianabass.com/big_indiana_bass/2010/03/connecting-to-fluorocarbon.html
It is very interesting and in depth about how the line is made and what to look for in a line.
I've tried Berkley Vanish, Seaguar Carbon Pro, and P-line 100% Fluorocarbon. The Vanish should do just that, "Vanish", absolute garbage. The Seaguar is my first choice and the P-line is also good. All the fluoros are a little kinky cutting down their life expectancy and can be frustrating on the water. I fish about 4 to 5 days a week with customers and found this to be expensive$$$ and a pain in the xxx, so what I do is spool up with 15lb braid and use about a 10 to 15 foot leader of fluoro. I use a blood knot to join them. I fish next two guys use all fluorocarbon and I get just as many bits. The braid will last an entire season and at the end of the season you can unspool and respool the line back on in the opposite direction and get another season out of it, very tough and sensitive stuff. You can replace the fluoro leader every trip.
Good luck, Len B.
