It was an amazing game. We haven't beat Canada in the Olympics since 1960. Rafalski had wo goals and an assist. Almost a hat trick. When we beat Russia for the gold we never had to play Canada in the pairings. Go USA! We are way ahead in the metal count.

For me that game - the miracle on ice - was the greatest winter Olympics moment. I don't think Olympic hockey is the same now as it was that year. None of the sports they let the pros into are the same for me.

I have to agree with you on that one Dan. I think though that for a long time, the only country that wasnt doing it was the US. I think thats why they started. It does take away from the thrill of watching amatures compete though.

Good hockey is good hockey, period. Who cares who plays. They're not out there playing for millions of dollars, they're out there playing for their country!

I think it's a much more compelling story when David beats Goliath, not when Goliath squashes David like a bug. That's all.

One thing different this year is that they are playing on an NHL size rink instead of the larger Olympic size rink.

well in the case of usa vs canada, canada was goliath and usa was david. If it was a huge blowout then i guess i would understand, but all the games have been pretty good!

Its pretty simple - they invented the sport and it is in their DNA. For the USA, hockey is a thing we strange northern folk do.

So if the India Hockey team showed up they'd be Goliath? It really is by the population that plays hockey not by the general population.

There's over 500,000 canadians that play hockey! There's not even that many americans that play and as u said, we have 330million people and they have 20mil

I stand corrected...

You're right... India is Goliath... no China. Does China have a hockey team?

China does have a team. The Men's team didn't qualify for the Olympics, they were 31st and the top 12 go. Their women's team did and the US stomped them with the double digit win.

Russia was the top men's seed with Canada 2nd. US was fifth.

Here's to Canada losing every game they ever play from here on out.  What an amazing collection of cheap shotting, whiney assed, wussies.  I developed a huge dislike for the Canadians just by watching half a hockey game last night.  My new favorite team is whoever is playing Canada.  Go USA!

SHHHHH!!! Don't get to vocal against Canada or they may not let us come and fish their water anymore... ;D ;D

It could easily be USA and Canada in the Finals....

USA is a "David"...Remember they are playing with mostly Club players from the Olympic development team......Miller(ex MSU Goalie) has been fantastic in the Goal.....Go State...Go USA..

How the heck could Russia have been number 1 seed?

I wondered if the goalie Miller was the one I used to watch at Munn arena years ago.

Miller grew up in East Lansing and played for MSU.  I don't believe he graduated from there though.  He left early in the draft if I remember correctly.
I think he plays now for Buffalo.

There are about 5 Mi "boys" on the US olympic team though.

Dan - Russia has a major hockey program and invests heavily in their national program. They've won two consecutive IIHF World Championship gold medals. Their goaltending is what is hurting them in this Olympics.

The seeding is based on the world championship games and on the recent olympic results.

Guess I thought they had faded quite a bit since their 'union' broke up (and we kicked their butts in the Miracle on Ice!!). Considering the way everyone has been talking about Canada, I expected they must be number one.

Russia has Alexander Ovechkin. Best player in the NHL. They are stacked with NHL superstars, but they didn't even get a medal! Go USA.

Well it was an exciting game and could have gone either way in OT.
I am proud of our players for their accomplishments. Miller wins MVP of the Tournament. Rofalski had an oustanding Tournament.
