That is one great way to do it for Peacocks in Miami. I have been down there almost every year for the past few. This year I will be taking my boat. I know what to do now when I am down there. Where to launch and where the best fishing for Peacocks is. Can't wait!!!!

I know there is a winter break for my kids sometime in February. I don't know when that is right now. I am going to try to sychronize it with my in-laws being down there so that we can visit them. More than likely at the end of the month.

The Florida peacock fishing is fun but its at its slowest from Dec to Feb, the time to go is April through June when the water temps are up and their spawning.
They cannot survive in water cooler than 65 and the water gets down pretty close to that during the winter.
I find a few bedding/fry guarding aggressive fish in February but I have to work pretty hard for everything in between so I would think shore fishing could be tough.
Ive found my best fishing out of 7th street launch ramp in Miami but Ive cought them out towards the everglades behind a hotel several miles inland so its a giant area that has Peacock Bass and takes days to learn unless you have solid local knowledge.
The place ya gotta go when your down there is the Everglades, I only fished peacocks my first couple trips down there but a couple years back I hunted down a launch ramp in the everglades and had a blast with largies.
Ive allways boated but it looks like there is spuratic open areas for shore fishing access Id just watch for gators on a couple of the more inland canals....freaky dang things! lol
Caught my first Peacock Bass in the Canals of Miami about 10 years ago. Still try to make it down there every year. Going again in February. Peacocks are abundant from Ft. Lauderdale south to the Tamiami Trail. Best area is around the Miami Airport. Great fun if you can handle the noise. Go a little further north of there to get away from that airplane noise but the Peacock fishing is still great. They hit like freight trains. Great fun.

I allways go in Feb also BD and do ok but the locals allways tell me I should have waited a month or two...its kinda hard to wait after watching snow fall for a few months :D
I get the same thing when I go down in February. "Should've waited until April" is what I always get. I have had fun catching largies when the peacocks aren't on. Pretty cold down there right now according to the Weather Channel. After looking at snow and ice for months I am always ready to make the trip.
